The 1st Watchwolf Memorial Tournament and Kill-Fest

Post by Watchwolf »

I had the chance and popped in for a bit to find the Void is surviving nicely despite my absence.  ;)

However things did seem a bit dull so I thought to myself, "Self," I thought... ""What we need is a tournament." And so was born the First Watchwolf Memorial Tournament. I thought, again to myself on account of there was no one to hear me thinking, "We need something a little different." " Good Idea," I thought back, which didn't really worry me despite that I was answering myself since I'm getting used to my own company now.  "How about a double-elimination tournament?" "Say now! Never seen that one here before... let's do it."

And so we did.

This is where I discovered why you don't see too many Double Elimination Tournaments around these-here parts: You really got to keep track of what's going on. Setting up the double brackets can get a little complicated when you're answering questions, teaming up the stragglers, replacing lost players and overall being the nice guy you have all come to love and miss.  :D  But we persevered, all of me, and we pulled it off.

And a good time was had by all.

In case you don't know what a double-elimination tournament is, here's the idea:

You get to lose once and still be in it. Everyone starts even, in pairs of teams (since it was a team event). After each fight the losing team moved to the lower bracket. See, if you lose once you still have a shot at it. Everyone gets to lose once. OK, so then you pair off the losing teams and they fight, and the losing team is out, the winning team advances in the lower bracket. Then the winners of the first round fight and the winers advance, the losers moving down to the lower bracket to fight the winner of that group. You keep going this way til you have a one team that is undefeated and one that has lost once and beaten all the others who have lost once. Then these two fight. If the undefeated team loses they fight again since both teams have now lost once. Of course if they win, they win the tourney.

Sounds simple, right?

Ha.

Here's what (I think) happened.

Forgive my leaving clan tags out.

Lumik/Berserker defeated Hellboy/Agent47.

The Assassin twins defeated DeDa / -=[R]=-.

Thorn/2501 defeated CroW/Serenity.

In the lower bracket, Hellboy/Agent 47 defeated CroW/Serenity, eliminating them.

Back upstairs, Lumik/Berserker defeated Thorn/2501.

Lumik/berserker advanced in the upper bracket.

In the lower bracket Hellboy/Agent47 eliminated Thorn/2501

Back in the upper bracket, Lumik/Berserker defeated the Assassin twins

Back in the lower bracket, The assassin Twins eliminated Hellboy/Agent 47.

Then DeDa and -=[R]=- then got another change against the Assassins and knocked them out get a shot at Lumik and Berserker for the  title.

The championship fight was a good one, lasting at least 5 minutes.

Lumik and Berserker survived the tournament undefeated, taking first place. They won 100M to split, and Second place took 50M to split.

But I wasn't done yet. Remember it's the Wat6chwolf Memorial Tournament and Kill-Fest. It was time for the kill-fest.

We had a free-for-all last-man-standing (ok, floating) wins. For a 50M prize.

That prize was won by ***//A$$A$$IN\\***

Congrats to all.

And the reason it's the FIRST Watchwolf Memorial Tournament and Kill-Fest is because there will be more!

*applause* *cheers* *throwing flowers* *blowing kisses* ... no wait, hold the kisses, except for Lady Cortana.  ;)

It was fun to pop in for that. Be seeing you all in a bit...

#-o DOH! I knew something didn't look right but I couldn't figure what it was. It's fixed now. Thanks. I knew someone would set me right.  ;)

As to the next one, maybe next weekend. I hope to do it earlier and maybe post it in the forum to get more involved. That was my first event but it was fun and will do it again. I liked the Double-Elimination format, it gives everyone a second chance. I just need to pay more attention to filling in the brackets so there are no mistakes.  :D
