Well first thing's first, we need to think of a way to tempt players onto the server

Re: A Void Blueprint for the future
Ahoj!
Many of U, had good ideas about improoving the action on the server, aka: better ways of clan money spending, destroyable clan bases & so.
@
What about, if: Every clan base could have VHF shield/armour, that could be destroyed by atackers? 4 ex:Enemyes start 2 atack yr clan base(eventualy warning message)When enemy aproach , the base wil shoot back, trying destroy enemyes.Base shield could be regenerable-let say , like on ships, with bats & bots-regeneration of the base, wil consume the clan money, deposited in the BASE COUNT. Like using the Bank Deposit command, we could use : /***base bank deposit comand 2 put the money in the base Bank 4 Autobuying Base bats & bots.
@
If a base wil remain without money, bats & bots consumed & finally it wil be destroyed by the enemy clan, base wil became theyr property.Solution, fight & destroy it 2 conquer back! Maybe this could generate a competition in game.
@
My dream: Clans could buy BASE guns(4 a Vhigh amount of money)4 defending theyr bases, & base could have a "comand room"like the Bar, where a docked player could shoot the enemyes with the base guns.(normaly, when nobody on base, they wil shoot automaticaly!)
@
Also, if a clan want 2 own more bases, may could be posible 2 destroy & conquer them / Or could pay a Rent 4 them-like eventualy Admins wil decide, after they own a new base, same condition could be aplyed as theyr native base:Do U want it, defend & suply it!
@
Maybe same condition could be aplyed 2 some planets 2, with the diference, that a planet wil be more times harder 2 destroy & expensive 2 own it.
Normaly, an enemy could not dock on those clan bases or planets, also neutrals could dock 4 an amount of tax, let say like the tax4 the pirates.

Re: A Void Blueprint for the future
Hi guys.
(Thanks to who-ever unbanned my forum account)
It's good to see a couple of old faces still around here, I hope you are all doing ok.
Every now and then I do still read the forums here and although I didn't care for posting or replying most of the time, this post (and a few other related ones) caught my eye.
First of all I would like to say to Strail that it's good to see you back here. I hope you and yours are all well and RL things are working out for you.
Then I would like to say that I think the change of direction described in this topic is a really good decision. I think it was much needed, and will hopefully take Void in a better direction. It is clear from Strail's post that the staff is open to input from the community, something that was - to my taste - lacking in the past. This is why I think this is a good decision, a server is nothing without its community, and the community will disappear if it is not given a listening ear.
What has made me leave some time ago was the abundance of over-inflated ego's and the utter lack of respect, both among players and - in all honesty - between the staff and the players, going both ways.
I would just like to point out that it might be helpful to the efforts made by Strail and the team, if ego's are put aside and people start thinking more 'for the community' instead of what they want for themselves. If that wouldn't change, the staff could all work their backsides off and nothing would change in the end. The community, and how they treat each other, is essential.
In times when Freelancer is hitting retirement, the people of its community can't afford to let ego and disrespect cause their server to die because of that. I have spoken to a lot of people who have left Void because of those very reasons. Maybe that is something to think about.
I think that any FL server that still exists today has earned the right to stick around for another couple of years, and I hope Void will be one of them. It was the first server I ever played on, and even though I had a lot of bad feelings when I left, I really wouldn't like to see it die off like all the others.
So Strail, the team and all of you, the best of luck with all of this. I hope it will turn out for the better and Void will live to see another day.
P.S.: I didn't come here to engage in any senseless bickering, I know there's a few of you out there who would love to but please save it.

Re: A Void Blueprint for the future
Hi Maverick,
Much of what you say is true, as is what many of the others have said in this thread. Delivering this is the hard part because it takes everyone to make a difference not just a handful of people.
That said, things are coming around, people are pumping in ideas and others are taking the ideas and trying to make them happen. One of the big things you mentioned is the way players deal with each other on the server and how they interact. Its in everyones interest to pull together and we may see more of the "Retired" players return over time.
I'm a big believer in the "feeling" and "atmosphere" of the game and players either add or detract to that for others. This is why every player on the server has a role to play in making sure people have an enjoyable experience be it in pvp, freelancing or relaxed role play.

-Rewards for in-game merits:Players should be awarded some sort of reward (medal, throphy, stars etc etc wich should be viewd in their Avatar section) if they acchieve an in game "merit"
for example:if they manage to kill 10000 Battleships (a medal for that)
if they manage to kill 100000 VHF npc (another medal, throphy etc)
if they reach 120000000 credits in game (financial award)
if they kill 200000 light fighter npc kills (reward)
if they donate money to the server (stars etc)
if their pvp kills reach 1000 VHF player kill (trader ships should not be incuded as kills in stats system)
if clans have more than 50-100 victories in clanwars
if they find/access all the jump holes/gates (explorer reward)
if they dock on a surten number of base/plantes (pathfinder reward)
if they manage to kill 15000 VHF Nomads (nomad slayer medal) 15000 VHF Corsair (corsair slayer medal) etc etc to encourage everything from a RP point of view
[/quote]
as you said before (or something similar) fancy colourfull usergroups ect and how bad is for the community
and now you want more distinguishing mark?
my
1'st idea is we need some information buoys before mahattan for new players
with mark (press F9)
1 - about server rules
2 - a short, easy but a bit boring average traderoute ( im sure they will bored to death with it in time so this isn't a big help)
3 - list about clans: navy, evil, pirates, nomads ... they will know what they can expect, wich clans can offer defender escorts...
4 - information about clans owned systems (like the message in EFZ "do not use nanobots and shield batteries... or "Omicron Gamma System, The Black Legion Home")
2'nd please restore the laggkicker feature with that system message "lagging the server, please close other applications ect..." with a little difference, coz players can't see why they lost connection in the old way.
lets not invole the NPCs to RP coz im sure that will lead to more lagg. (except around clanbases)
if we really have to blame anything why lot's of old voidians left the table, then i think the laggy players was the 1'st.
IMO server side lagg is rare guest in Void.
3'rd a battleship driver license. in the past there was a problem with new players who buy BS, then try to "jump into fire" or lazy to fly around then moan about if they got killed. increasing the BS prices isn't the best i think but with that license you can land on any port and no need to buy any other BS to be able docking on other ports...
"Admin, Void, FAQ, tagged players can give you BS driver licence for a single fee 500.000.000 (or so). WARNING: if you buy a fighter class ship then you will lose your license. Licenses can't be XFER-ed between players" 1 BS/MPID
4'th as mentioned before "clanbase is under attack" is a really good idea.
as far as i know there is not possible to restore commodity player looting without ammo looting but if possible then we need that... maybe this will lead to overkilling but without it, the piracy isn't realistic.
i really miss the player ammo looting anyway coz the game was a lot more fun, an alternative way to earn some money. you won a pvp then you become rich-er. (anyway im happy with: not matter how many times i do suicides on purpose^^)
a lot more reward than the frags. who is the best pvp-er? i don't think we can decide by frags anyway via numbers, only with percentage. also you can't see the "forced" suicides by cruisedistruptor ;p
5,th increase the new player protection to lvl 40 with immortality (or the highest lvl wich will not lead to abuse)
make the freelancer vs freelancer pvp as forbidden without warning.
make the "No regen" rule official for fighter vs fighter pvp and if they used it, then force them not to fight back (give chance to flee from battle but not for use them in combat) the current rule about it isn't clear enoug for a man like me with cheap english.
command for taxing also can be usefull for pirates EK: select target, open comm window, write "/tax" and a system message which player got protection, for limited tax-free period or if another pirate trying to tax her/him then send a message to the pirate and the trader too " will expire within 4 hour"
a shame system message: player called blablabla refused to pay the tax after 3 defeat in a row
upps this is a lot bigger than i wanted to. so thanks for reading and forgive my cheap english^^

Yes,because they reflect the in game activity/merits of a player and they are to be hard earned.as you said before (or something similar) fancy colourfull usergroups ect and how bad is for the community
and now you want more distinguishing mark?
I'm fine with adding stars, trophys, awards etc in Avatar section as long as no colors are being added to the forum username to make him stand out and be visible on forum. (just like in your case for example - blue color username)
That's not very mannered and doesn't contribute to anything for the community.
Just imagine players in game having colored nicknames =>crap.

Re: A Void Blueprint for the future
I'd support switching the lag kicker back on, but with a bit more tolerant limits.
Same as with the player looting... it was disappointing that when a trader attacked me, I could no longer scoop the gold they were carrying up :/ But I guess players can't bear to lose all the ammo they bought upon dying. Well, maybe after v9.
There won't be a "no regen" rule though: Strail has made that clear.

@burn
lol You cannot shoot the way to be Admin or Void and they words must be seen as "orders". they are not regular players you can argue with ... ... ...
or FAQs advices can be more usefull than the regular players ... ... ...
anyway i don't care about my coloured nickname^^ but Server Guards must be different than average players
let's forget about my case but other developers asking nothing for exchange. No award or anything else to them, not a single word like "bla bla bla made half of the ships award" XD
i'll not spamm the topic about this again^^

Edit:I do appreciate the hard work of the Dev Team but in my opinion i think the more experienced modders should take over (Strail+LukyLuke)
Dev can be their backup help
I'm talking about rewards for in game achievement wich have nothing to do with Admin/Void/Faq/Event/Dev Team/Writers or getting a color for it on the forum.
here's mi quote:
Nothing related to Admin or Void etc-Rewards for in-game merits:Players should be awarded some sort of reward (medal, throphy, stars etc etc wich should be viewd in their Avatar section) if they acchieve an in game "merit"
for example:if they manage to kill 10000 Battleships (a medal for that)

if they manage to kill 15000 VHF Nomads (nomad slayer medal) 15000 VHF Corsair (corsair slayer medal) etc etc to encourage everything from a RP point of view
edit:I admit i was inspired by The Hamburg Char Manager Tool:Here's a link i hope you understand what i am talking about by looking at it: =>
http://www.freelancerserver.de/v2/rang.php
So if a Void tells me to stop from what i'm doing and go fly into a planet,am i suppose to do it? No.Admin or Void and they words must be seen as "orders"
Nobody shoud take orders from anybody here (only follow the rules)
Of course you can argue with them - it's not like they are some Uber Gods and we're all suppose to kneel and pray to them while posting here on the forum.they are not regular players you can argue with
This unequality has poisoned the Void Forums.
Why?What makes them more special than any other average player here? Nothing. (maybe only more game Experience but that's it)but Server Guards must be different than average players
FAQ's are uneeded in my opinion.I see them join in game and stay for around 5 min to wait for questions from players...if they don't get questions then they leave (5-10 minutes average) it's normal - if you don't have anything to do in game it get's boring and you leave.or FAQs advices can be more usefull than the regular players
It's like i would wait here on the Forum for a new player to post questions...would take very long.
They would help the server much more if they'd join a clan for example.(Same goes for Void Server Guards)
There are many helpfull players on Void wich can answer many questions there's no need to spoonfeed all new players.
Simple solution for the color issue:

Problem solved.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this but,
for V9, can we PLEASE restore the original speed of the snping weapons. I saw no reason for them to be changed in the first place, other than some people moaning that they were overpowered? they are still as powerful now...
just my 2 pennies worth

for V9, can we PLEASE restore the original speed of the snping weapons. I saw no reason for them to be changed in the first place, other than some people moaning that they were overpowered? they are still as powerful now...

Re: A Void Blueprint for the future
@ Molten: no, it's not :P Please post mod suggestions in another thread. That having been said, lasers (+ screamers) were overpowered because they were the only guns which had a proj. speed of 1222 m/s. (Or was it 1200?) Everything else had 1000 max. I think you can see why that was changed, and sorry, but it's not going to get changed back.
@ Liman: well then, any suggestions about what should they be changed to? (So long as it's not "invisible" or "pink" :P)
@ Burn: um. You do realise that LuckyLuke is the head of the dev team, and that the rest of us are his "backup help", so what should he take over? :P
