Of course it's in the US, but I don't think there has been but 2 deaths, and the 2 that died from it had multiple other problems, it's nothing to overly worry over.

Influenza A H1N1 has spread to 13 countries with 365 confirmed cases and 10 deaths, the World Health Organization said
Mexico -- the epicenter of the outbreak -- leads the list with 156 cases and nine deaths, followed by the United States with 141 cases and one death -- that of Mexican child who traveled to Houston for treatment. WHO said 34 cases were confirmed in Canada, 13 in Spain, eight in the United Kingdom, two in Israel and three each in New Zealand and Germany. Austria, the Netherlands, Denmark and Switzerland each have one confirmed case.

One case was confirmed Friday in Hong Kong, marking the flu's arrival in Asia. Hong Kong authorities said a 25-year-old traveler who arrived from Mexico Thursday after a stop in Shanghai was confirmed to have the H1N1 virus. The man is hospitalized and officials have quarantined all 200 guests at the Metropark Hotel in Hong Kong, where the traveler stayed Friday night, China's Xinhua news service reported.

"Even if it turns out that the H1N1 is relatively mild on the front end, it could come back in a more virulent form during the actual flu season"

The worlds population needs thinning out anyway, now the weak willed wishy washy liberals have their say and theres no more war.

To most of you, you will probably think my way of thinking is horrific but think on this.

Lemmings kill themselves when it is obvious that thier increasing population will outstrip resourses, so it seems to me when humans goto war they are in effect self culling themselves ensuring the natural resourses of thier territory ( earth )will not be pillidged beyond the means for nature to replenish itself. We breed like vermin and strip everything without regard for the future, or anyone or anything else needing those resourses.

Now this doesnt happen anymore, as man is the top of the food chain, and its only predetor is man, our numbers expand expodentially with nothing to keep the balance in check. Look at the world around you, this is not how its supposed to be, nature usually does not allow such inbalances to continue and will find a way to cull us, ensuring only the strong survive.

The world is harsh, human beings are harsh, we are this way because we are ingrained with the need to survive.

Why do you think that is?.

The world, nature, physics and life all live in balance, tip that balance and there will be trouble.

I have little patience for todays "mankind" its like watching someone dig there own grave, the crass stupidity of mankind beggars belief.

Oh noes, all of Rangitoto College is dead :P

Or at least I wish it was. Well... I suppose it's not as bad as Waiheke...

IT seriously is insane how everyone is afraid of a little flu. Seriously, the could bet the plague still kills more people in a day than the swine flu will ever do. Go concenrate on something that matters, like malaria, or poverty, and leave the scientists to do their overrated jobs, lol

In the meantime, I'll put on a pig suit, get some fake snot and make the NZ government wet its pants. All the beehive shall cower in fear at my awesomely realistic costume!

@Retribution-
Yeah there are a lot of people in world,6.7 billion to be exact, but do you think such a flu would reduce the numbers in any significant way?
Even in 1918,when the Spanish flu epidemic happened roundabout 50 million died,50 million  seems a lot but in comparison to human population it is too small.

Moreover it is not weak who die, young people, can die from this.So basically the youth who are the ones who should survive  for' glory of mankind' die more from this than people from other age groups.

Moreover why should one adopt this way to reduce the population,as it its ineffective and crude and how can one ignore moral implications of this?

To reduce population go for family planning.

I am afraid this could just be the start, this the first wave of flu, there could be a second which could be worse.
A possibility.

Sorry to correct you Ent, but Lemming suicide is an urban legend started by a Walt Disney film called White Wilderness. After this showed people widely believed that lemmings committed suicide, and on a massive scale. The filming took place in Alberta, Canada. But when the film crew got there, they found no lemmings and no examples of suicide. The lemming's natural habitat is northern Canada, Alaska, Siberia and Scandinavia. Not to be dissuaded, the crew went down the unfortunate path of story fabrication. They paid Inuit children 25 cents for every lemming they could catch.
They then placed the lemmings on a large turntable, like a 'merry-go-round' hidden with snow, and got the lemmings running. With some imaginative camera angles and editing, they made a few dozen lemmings look like thousands migrating and rushing to a scene even more startling. After the migration sequence, the lemmings were collected and taken to a cliff top overlooking a river. The documentary crew crouched down hidden from the cameras, and pushed the lemmings over the edge of the cliff to their death in the water below. The myth of lemming suicide turned from fable to fact .... If you look at the little faces on the lemmings they dont look too keen on the idea of jumping off the cliff.

The moral implications? seriously?

Nature weeds out and kills the weak, allowing the weak to live only contaminates the gene pool, further weakening future generations with genetic imperfections.
You say the worlds population is 6.7 billion? how many more shall we cram into it then, shall we keep breeding like vermin and spreading like a virus, corrupting and squandering everything we lay our hands on?.

If a human cull is on the way, so be it, not before time I say.
For eons humans have struggled to survive and been kept in check, now there is nothing to hold its virulent spread, so we wait until its eaten and spolit every last recourse in a gluttany of selfish greed - only then will it turn on its own bloated stinking self important corpse and feed upon itself.

Humanity is culled every  so often - fact, it will be so again - fact.
