Although i can see some flaws in this idea, i can also see some good things if everyone will get on board. It wont hurt to at least try this idea out, maybe enforce it for a month so if it works it stays if it doesnt it goes no harm in that so its a good idea, which deserves a try.
My idea though about the whole no RP thing is that everyone has too many allies, so everyone is friends with each other = no one fights. People seem to ally with each other for the sake of it, i see new clans appear and immediatly ppl ask to be allies with them. If every clan looks at their alliance list and think to themselves if there allies are really their allies. An ally imo is someone who will always help you out and you have fought with them for ages. Clans should have 1 ally, 2 max if needs be and the rest friends or neutral. Clans should also when they come on try and make their own events like, go on a rampage, clense the server of [R]'s or [X]'s, attack a navy place or trade route, or go after their enemy's system (if ppl start claiming their own system) Saint and Shadows did their system raids, RAV+HFC+XEF and Cobra's (old skool clans) attacked Navy's home systems, Espana protected Alpha (still do in Tercio), Outcasts did Cardi dealings and BBB and KBA many moons ago did pirate hunting. These clans did these pretty much everyday, not like some clans now do it once in a while.
Just a thought.
What we need is a clan that can do everything for everyone. A clan that can do all this:
A clan with a pure RP. One who will wreak havoc and strike terror in all but the most hardy souls in the Void
A clan who would be everyone’s enemy.
A clan who would have no allies
A clan who would attack everyone they see without provocation and without mercy.
A clan who would not simply be psychopathic killers, but have an accepted reason to kill.
A clan who, no matter who or what anyone else’s RP is, they would (or should) all drop their differences and join together whenever they show up.
A clan who could draw massive battles and wars, death and destruction til your fingers were raw.
A clan who wouldn’t always be getting into trouble or disgrace the clan or get banned because they smarted off in system chat.
A clan who who’s code of conduct prohibits inflammatory and provocative behaviour.
A clan who’s leadership is without peer and inspires the respect and complete commitment of members to follow their lead.
A clan who would be equally respected by the other players and the Administrative staff alike.
A clan who’s play would be 100% accepted by the Void.
Isn’t this what everyone is asking for? Isn’t this what we really want?
Let’s do it!
Oh. We already have one.
Eclipse.
Why are there so few Eclipse?
End of rant.
What he said.
I agree 100%.
Yes there were DTA and XEF, they are not here now, and it is not my business to argue about the reasons.
If anyone wanna start a real evil clan, active RP, a clan that have not alliances, just kill everybody, and has the support of the admin (I dont wanna be banned again just because I am a member of a clan), a clan with a leader for helping not a leader that just wanna say I am the leader ( I dont accept orders), then O will come back, and the blood of the players will cover my hands again

.
PD: And a nice name

Wow - lots of reaction! Thats why I love this place!
Ok - to throw a question at you all - and mainly at Watchwolf.
What would be the problem with having a tag that said "please do not molest me" and have it so that everyone could have one character or more with this tag in order to be left in peace to trade and gather funds, explore and relax with a bit of red dot killing
ALONG SIDE any character RP they choose? Ok so they switch between the two - is that such a bad thing? I am asking this as I am trying to find ways of getting this idea to work.
I was thinking this over and was having a bit of difficulty finding where the "abuse" could occur - so please educate me cos I might be being a bit slow on this.
My other thought is this: We had another attempt at getting a true adversarial clan going, this time with TRIAD who did prove to be ruthless - sadly some of the founding members got a bit too hot under the collar and resorted to some dirty tactics in a vain attempt to defend their position.
TRIAD are still in existence - with SCORPION as the leader. I believe there are only about three members at the moment (correct me if I am wrong). They have an excellent policy of recruiting only the better PvPers, and rely on skill rather than numbers. The execution of their "RP" has toned down a bit due to the adverse reaction they received and not helped by their initial response.
I offer up TRIAD and ECLIPSE as two of the models for ruthless RP. If any of you want to restore the "good old days" then maybe you should consider teaming up with and joining either one of these clans - bring back the fear. ECLIPSE have done so in Nomad1 - heck - ONE of them took on at least four of us at once! I had a great time chasing and feuding with this particular individual and, according to the rules of the ECLIPSE clan I recieved a message in the green "GF - thanks mate". Sure I got toasted - and sure, the first time I got "rabbit punched" during a mission against red dots by one of their number I was a little hacked off to say the least! - but, taking my own advice ;) Space is a dangerous place - Scream On!
Rather than say "this will never work" try doing something about it. All you bad **s Killers out there, get together and cause some havoc under a united banner - but do it RIGHT. Dont slag off the less well able even when they crib at you for carrying out your RP - use the ECLIPSE rule of silence - if they badger u - /mute their voices. Publish a rule that says you will not kill someone more than x number of times in a row. Give the new guys that have just passed level 20 a fighting chance to breath and let them have a taste of the adrenalin rush that is the VOID...!
ESF and SYNDICATE do a pretty good job of things too - as do 666 and 4S and I am certain there are others out there who do their best.
If push comes to shove - I am prepared to take on the responsibility of running a clan that does this - I have my hands busy with AoF - which tends to run its self as an Association, I would be prepared to monitor and regulate, act as mediator and publicist for such a ruthless RP clan, if it would restore some of the faith of those who are feeling a bit out of phase with how things are right now.
If it were a success we could even have a message printed when people sign on saying "Beware of the FLOWERPOT clan! They will Kill On Sight" or some such thing - just so we can at least say - You Were Warned....
Just the mussings of an old space dog....Please feel free to comment and add any ideas - As an old friend of mine says - "Get the Idea out there no matter how crazy cos we can always clean it up and refine it at a later date"..........*(phew - off to lie down for a bit)*

Non-RP tag abuse:
Well the reason that i think having both RP and Non-RP chars would be abused is that people would use it for trading, which would make less traders to legally kill, which would ruin fun for Rogues and Pirates.
If you could switch to a character where if anyone shot at you they could be banned, then people would do just that. Switch to their Non-RP char to make credits, stash it in the bank, and pick it up on their RP character. So allowing everyone to have both tag types, if they were put into play, would just cause more problems.

regarding bout pirates taxation....i have some ideas on taxing pricing which i got from my previous clan in another server....yes i was a pirate b4
You may tax according to this, taxation goes by ranks:
20 or below..................................NO TAX
21-29...........................................25K
30-35...........................................100K
36-40...........................................200K
41-50...........................................500K
51-99...........................................1 Mil
note the server i played in is a vanilla server....its not modded or watsover...seriously i think u should juz pay tax rather then hav those expensive fites tho...also if u lose to a pirate, yeah i think u should pay him....unless u r navy..juz my opinoin tho
p.s. hey zeb ur siggy message reminds me of someone....

Just a note about current server activity.
In the middle of a Saturday we have 30 people on the server. It's ridiculous to pass it off as simply "It happens every year!" because thats just stupid. I was here last year at around this time (October '06) and i rarely saw less then 60-70 people on a weekend. So no, dont pass it off as a problem that will just go away because it wont.
Large scale battles for example. These are always fun for pvpers however they're normally sparked by clans. Without large clans, no large battles. But how do fix that? Recruiting members and keeping them ain't easy. Merging clans would be a supurb option however merging is a huge amount of work and in reality clan leaders and members would be far to stubborn to accept that. I've suggested in the past that we clean up the forums by deleting the clan spaces of clans with under 5 members, remember the rule:
"The Void recognizes clans officially and will place a clan discussion
area in the forums for your clan as long as these additional requirements are met.
Your clan must have followed all of the before mentioned guidelines.
Your clan must maintain a minimum of 5 members. "
I've counted that 25 out of the 34 clans on the void have under 5 active members, i might be wrong, theres only one way to find out: Post on every clanspace on the void to give them 5 active individuals (and have these individuals post for themselves), if they dont have them then give them one month to recruit and if they cant pull it off then scratch their names off the board. This does NOT mean you would have to delete your tags it simply means your not official. Now onto the benefits for official clans, i really beleive in a non-mod involvment when it comes to clans (so no clan ships or bases) however that doesnt mean im against serverside support. Things such as hourly console messages that read "Need a ship? Need credits? Clan A needs you!".
Btw: Cryosphere is a bad source of info when it comes to members, it doesnt distinguish remakes of the same character nor does it tell you if the pilot is active or not.

New york maybe but just its freak when ppl just sit and do nothing .
and we not need make few huge clans . if big battle then lot off lagg.
and maybe ppl not interested coz like i heard 2112 mod is more then year and we need something diferent now

I believe there was a trial of a prog that kicked you out if your lagg was real bad - I dont think it quite worked the way the A team had wanted (but thats a whole other subject)
cryosphere is one of the few sources that I have to keep a decent "tab" on my players and numbers - It does tell me the last time they logged on. Define "active" for me - once a day, once a week, twice at the weekend for six hours, once a month (just to keep a character alive)? Who decides? I dont have the luxury of being able to sit at my terminal all afternoon and administer a clan - I do a lot of it in what little spare time I have and during breaks at work. I agree - we have seen a spate of clans formed and then disappear and I guess thats what happens in a place like this, but does something realy need to be done or are the rules for clan forming ok as they are- IMO I believe that they are. .
Ok if you tighten the Clan Forming Rules to say - 10 members and an extra quota of hours before they can become "official" - but - how do you monitor the ones that have all but died off? Lets say there are 6 members instead of the original 10. Who spots this? Do they then become unofficial as you have suggested? I am asking this cos I dont know how this is administered. Samurai were a good example. Very active when I first arrived and then they tailed off - at one point a message was left asking "where are you cos we are about to shut down your forum..." Then they came back. I have no idea how many of them there are and I believe their area is still active and they are still considerd to be an "official" clan - Ive got no problem with that cos they came back. Are we to penalise them because of their absence?
Lets put it another way and come at it from a different angle. When you sign up to play on the VOIDserver, should you be MADE to join a clan? Decide what you want to be - either Navy / Priate / Trader and then go join one of the three "compulsory" clans... Surely its just as untidy and messy to have all these individual players floating about and getting in everyones way? (Irony....!)
@Symbol - I joined in August of 2006. I would not dare to suggest that the idea that the drop in numbers is not "seasonal" and I would refrain from calling the "seasonal" idea as being Stupid. Remember the A team have been running this thing for quite some time now and will have witnessed changes to the server that you and I know nothing of. I get your point - and its a valid one - maybe they are all off playing on their X-Boxes and out buying their Playstation 3.....?
Just a thought thats all....

Well zeb, i define activity as playing the game in the tags. Take a good look at cryosphere you'll see that 6 or 7 of your members havent used their names in the past month. Pulling the "RL First" card is painfully overused and frankly i dont get it, DUH! of course real life comes first it goes without saying but speaking in terms of the game we have to look at it standing alone. So you admit that loads upon loads of clans take off and crash but your answer is "I guess it happens" ... Thats nice but zeb, just look at it if a clan is inactive your breaking a rule which i will quote again:
Quoted from Fracture:
"The Void recognizes clans officially and will place a clan discussion
area in the forums for your clan as long as these additional requirements are met.
Your clan must have followed all of the before mentioned guidelines.
Your clan must maintain a minimum of 5 members."
I suppose all i'm asking is for enforcement of this rule. How would you enforce it you ask? I'd be glad to tell you. Every one or two months a clan-wide thread is started basically asking for an activity report, all a clan needs is five members to respond to prove activity. Now if they didnt complete the test then the said clan would get an alotted amount of time to rebuild themselves and if they couldnt complete the task theyre status would be revoked. Now onto your samurai example, no we shouldnt punish them for their abscence they should have been penalised during their abscence. And at the moment the samurai (as with most clans) are breaking the rule i stated above.
Thats a weird angle, but no. When you enter the void you should have to choose between Pirate, Freelancer, Rogue, Navy, Order, Assassin, Merc, Join a Clan, Make a clan, or Trade plus anything else they can think of. Three clans? Probably around 10 if the the wipe took place, how'd you come up with 3? What are you talking about when you say people floating in each others way?
I dont care what anyone says but when i got here in october of last year (around this time) it was twice as active as it is now so i dont know about the far past but i do know that last "season" it wasnt like it is now. Maybe last year was just a good year? Or maybe, as i've stated, there are more players leaving freelancer due to new technology and old age then we have comming, its not unrealistic really. But as i've also stated several times there are still several thousand players in the mix and with a bit of effort we could probably keep this place running a few more years.

The suggestion of lonewolfquestor is the best idea I have read on this thread, it would give clan members a reason to trade and do missions in order to keep the clan alive. As it is at the moment the clans do not do much role play and the only players who do are some of the [R]' s, most others players just earn a bit of cash for PVP, it seems to be getting a bit boring, which is why palyers are not as active as they used to be. So if the Clan liscence idea idea can be implemented lets do it, at the very least it would get rid of the inactive clans.

@ Symbol: On the part about players bumping into each other - I was being cynical / sarcastic or even Ironic...not sure which one! ;)
Thanks for the clarification. The Three Clan idea that I mentioned was one I believe came off another server - possibly a vanilla one where they just kept it to three large RP groups of Navy, Pirate and Rogue or at least their equivalent. Like yourself I dont think that it would work here. I reckon that with the smaller clans there would be no harm in asking them if they would be prepared to merge with like mined smaller clans or apply to join one of the bigger clans for the sake of clarity - and I guess then its up to them and their recipient clan to decide what to do. Rather than make them do it, ask and see if they would volunteer - I know that AoF could probably do with a few more active members....? :D
I will use the idea you suggested with getting members of the clan to post in their activity - I guess "clock in" if you will. In combination with the Global Stats that should give me a better idea of their actual activity and I will work it from there. I had 911 conduct a clear out of AoF earlier on in our lifetime, so maybe its time to do it again.
Thanks.

I think we can safely say that despite all of our input here be it good or bad, we are still yet to hear from the team responsible for the upkeep of this place and those who can make these changes happen. Whether or not we are being ignored is the question.
I think an important issue raised here is perhaps there is an official need for a selected few to be in charge of voicing the opinions formally to the administration. I've seen countless posts by Zeb and WatchWolf both making some great points, yet despite both of you lads are in a position of authority, even your words don't seem to be taken into consideration by the powers that be.
