Some players having been banned in the past is not the reason why new people aren't staying on the server.
Should I write this with large red letters to make my point clearer? :P
You don't have to write it bigger and colored cause it's WRONG.
let me clear something for you - Freelancer communities depend on " MOVING INFO " how? , people join a server , then tell others about it if it's cool so they join and have fun together , but if they joined a server and got banned from a graphic issue  #-o  then they will tell the others about how badly they were treated and therefore this will affect the percentage of the freshly coming people to the server , Specially in clans.

PS: if you don't want me to explain anything on this thread , then please don't reply to me here - and reply to me at any other place so i can reply back in the same place , Either on PM , or another thread or another site , it's okay for me.

regards,
XENON
dear Xenon
That guy is unbanned as far as i know. CHEATERS done damage for the whole community!!!
As you saying that "MOVING INFO" also will lead CHEATERS directly to Void. like saying "wanna cheat? then go to the Void. if you got banned just keep saying: i have no PC experience, no idea what you talking about," ect ...

3 banned by reason 1 banned by accident (or missunderstanding or game bug whatever). do some math please

cheaters must be punnished for a lifetime bann
... and if you wanna defend cheaters ...

I always stated that restricting the missiles will be wrong.
That was my opinion, and of course, mainly because i used 4 of them and i was doing just fine.
Now...not that good, and I feel as hopeless as I do on Hcc.
The game gave me a way to be good using "my style" and compete with different styles too.
Was fair.
Not to moan, but now, the snipers and rly fast and good browlers are advantaged.
I will never be able to train as a sniper playing from Las Vegas, and that was the solution for me.
This is all I have to say on the subject (as I have said before)

Void is mine and my clan's  home and ADMINS and DEV have my trust on doing their job.
This mod is playable after-all (maybe that Shilone needs to be fixed or something...), so - heads up.

It is surprising that we are all still talking about the mod.

I have very little to worry about the Void mod,the Void mod is a very good mod,it may not be the best(it is unlikely that there is a 'best mod' anyway just like there is no 'best ship'), there is a capable Dev Team developing the mod and the mod should become better.

ALL the ideas put here for the mod have been mentioned earlier as well(see forum- Mod Discussion) and they appear to be 'discussed' and 'worked upon'. We can only trust the Dev Team on this to deliver and we can do nothing else.

Even if we have an excellent mod,it is quite useless till there is effective administration.
It is the administrative reforms that i am more concerned with and NONE of you have actually touched upon this 'touchy topic' in your replies after 2 of my posts in this topic.
Don't ignore it.
Constructive criticism has been made against the authorities that run this place and i hope for a response not in words BUT in actions.

Please take a look at this ancient post made in Mar,2009-
What can we do?

^^That was exactly 1 year ago,we are making the same points again and again.(From pages 2-5)  #-o
In the above post we had Disco Admins coming to Void arguing against us to improve ourselves.

This time our condition is so bad that we are simply are out of their radar and we are left with far fewer people.
This time we are discussing amongst ourselves.
And next time there won't be a next time.

@Virt : 1-I did a suggestion ; read above.
2- My colour has no meaning, I just like red and I started to use it since I became a Reaver if I remember well

@ Gero : I don't see the point of administration changes, because the population is so low now that 1 admin will be sufficient.
But for sure the A team needs to be reformed, almost all Admins are inactive.

But a what will a good A team do without a sufficient amount of players? That's why we're discussing here about the mod. Why did we loose the fun. This has to do with the mod itself not the admins. Because the void is a desert now cause almost everyone lost the fun there.

Re: New mod not catering for everyone?

Post by Burn »

I've read the ancient post which you provided geromix and there was one comment upon which i toattaly agree - Shonensan's one about the Community.

You know, you could add up to 100 even 1000 new ships with 1000 new weps and commodities.Tens of new fractions, tons of new features etc ... but it would be all inwane if there's no strong community present.

Shonen is right it always was and always will be the COmmunity which represents the backbone of this server. (and it's especially the Forum Community which i am refering too)

So what happened? What happened to this website? Do some of you remember the looks of this website 4 years ago? No? Well i do! And boy how i loved the looks and the atmosphere of it.

People joking, fooling around, having fun, creating Sigs on a massive scale etc etc...just a healthy enviroment for everyone to enjoy!

So again i'm asking myself what happened and theres only one conclusion i came to.

Once the website was changed into the current format it must have had a devastating impact on it's members.I know it had on me as i hate the looks(especially the color introduction for some members) of the current website.

SO instead of all of us being together as a strong core,a strong community some of us got separated with greater responsabilities and a change in forum nickname color so that he would be recognised.

Giving other members greater responsabilities is fine with me but adding a color to his nickname to make him look more "special" more "awesome" than the normal non colored user was wrong.

Just imagine what impact that might have had on some users around here.
Asking themselves, Hey why did he got a nice colored nickname? What makes him so more special? How come he has one and i aint got one? What do i have to do to get one? etc

And the balance of the community was ruptured!

Lounges were created for these colored users so they can (in my opinion) "retreat" from the community and backtalk instead of participating in the non-colored realm of the forums.

And that's sad becasue i have no idea what's going on with the Admins.I don't even know who's active or not.Everything seems to be talked behind our backs! Why?
How is that going to contribute to the Community?

I've seen Strail yesterday on the Forum!I was hopeing he would write someting, add his insights, share his thoughts, write something ffs  :( ...Sadly nothing came...
Why hide man...why hide? Why are you all hiding in your lounges? Is it becasue of the colred nicknames? Are you scare dthat it would look like a Kindergarten forum if you post with all those colors?

Strail if you care about this place (and i most definatley know you do) then you tell Vector to change the forums as it was 4 years ago and bring back the healthy atmosphere with no more differences between registered members and everybody seen as equals. No more hiding and no more backtalking.

A forum change is what we need most in my oppinion, then the community attituted will also hopefully change in for the better and once the community is strong nothing else needs to be done as everything will comply naturaly.

You could even make a Vanilla Void mod and players would still join if the community of this server is restored.

@annoyingnomad: Yeah i've not played here for some time as i have been busy with work in Germany. But i do care about this place!
@Xenon: Thanks for the explanation m8 i appreciate it!
@Dyn:Cheers m8!

Burn : Go to "edit your profile", then change theme.
Just imagine what impact that might have had on some users around here.
Asking themselves, Hey why did he got a nice colored nickname? What makes him so more special? How come he has one and i aint got one? What do i have to do to get one? etc
Well if they really do that, then the community is really ill

As far as my imagination goes I imagine only kids who can do that

Sorry if you think i'm offensive because I am not.

Mate, will you understand that no new player come here? they directly go to void, earn money trade then they get bored and leave. THATS THE HEART OF PROBLEM (imo)

@Viper:
New players go directly to the Void! And from where do they get the Void mod?Not from this website?
New players have problems connecting to the Void!WHere do they go?Not to this website?
New players have questions about the Void!Where do the go?Do they google for the Void?WHat do they find? Not this website?
New players want to introduce themselves to the community but see what's goig on on the Void FOrums!Where do they go?EXactly like you said! They leave...

Don't worry i don't find you offensive at all,it's good to have a civilized conversation.
I hope you and others don't find me offensive as in the end i only wrote in an unmannered way to let out some frustrations.

They DL the void mod from MoDDB
If they have probs they go to the same moddb and read comments, or try reinstalling alone
They don't feel the need to come here

And like draugr says and re says, everything is IG! not in forums.

The colours are really not a prob...they aren't kids to think that ain't. IF they do really like that, then the void is a REAL kindergarten like you said

Could you find another suggestion than this one? (no offense again ;) )

@Viper-

I don't agree with you.

A good mod is NOT a guarantee for a successful server.

CF is an excellent mod but where are the players?

Some Vanilla servers have more players than Void now. How can you explain that?

As i said earlier as well-
ALL The ideas stated here for the mod have been stated earlier as well. None of the ideas are new except for Kumori's mission idea. *We are restating all the ideas.*

There are 3 things needed for a successful server which uses a mod(not necessarily in this order)-
1. Good mod
2. Good Community( Mentioned by Burn)
3. Good Administration

All three are needed.

Right now we don't have much of a community because we barely have the players.

A mod is in the works and the Dev Team is working on it. Read cmdrsaman's reply on the various features being considered.

And that leaves us with administrative reforms.
When i say administrative reforms,i just don't mean reforming A Team but its about reforming everything from server rules to application of these rules to reforming existing teams like Event Team etc. A complete overhaul of every aspect of administration and management in this server and the server forums.

I didn't think of that, thanks for pointing it.
However, CF has +20 players every night.

And I agree with you here, you got me :)

Looks like the server doesn't drastic changes only, it needs to be re-begun at Zero.

But this is a complicated issue, Gero. Imagine if for e.g. we remove Elessar, he has done so much for this server, so kicking him wouldn't be very nice. Do you think the highest authorities here will accept to kick all inactive admins even if they're inactive? I don't think so.

Why don't we do a poll and see what's the results?

VERY SIMPLE Answer-

Create a separate group called Retired Admins(or give it a fancy name like Heroes of Void). Let them continue have admin powers.

BUT make a clear difference between Active Admins and Inactive/Retired Admins.

This way people will know whom to approach and which Admins are active or not.
Right know you have to hazard a guess whether someone is active or not.

:-? Good point.

Imagine we solved the admins prob, what about the community one? That is the most hard.

We just need to link up and forget the past and do a fresh start...but we do need more players for that.

Why not unbanning everyone that was in the past (madz asked for it, it turned into a moan thread), and do a newsletter to the 10000 members and speak about the mod etc...

And why not create a group especially made for promoting void and writing the introductions and doing vid intros etc?

Color of peoples names is whats wrong with void and community? Really? I dont think so....

TBH i dont care about color of my name and what stands below it.

And as for shonen, people like him ruined relations between players.
There was bad relations among players since void became one of the big servers but that didnt stop ppl to play. Eventually ppl got bored of same old song and stop playing or left to play elsewhere.

As for people who are still active i can say that most of them are cool guys and make up a good community.

As for mod,i can say that this is one of best mods ever.

@ Claudiu and others,

I didnt want to post because it seems that things have moved on since I was here last and I'm not getting into a row with people running the server now.

If you make a good mod, it doesnt mean people will come. There have been some fantastic mods run by servers and they died within 6-12 months. What makes people come back and play is the community. Having the latest "cool mod stuff" doesnt make any difference to the player base. When the server had 50-115 players every night, it wasnt because it was the cutting edge mod of the time, it was because the Admin hierachy had one direction and the players all knew what they were getting when they got onto the server. Sure there were plenty of problems fights/spats and stuff going on, but there was a clear direction for all to follow. Now, you have people arguing on the forums who when I was here 1yr+ before wouldnt act like that, this is due to frustration, there not bad people, there frustrated.

It seems that much is broken, but its not. Small things need to be changed and it will be a popular server again.

Wishing you all well and remember, if you work together, they will come...again. A few yrears ago, I started with an empty forum and an empty server, a mod that certainly wasnt curtting edge, but, they came and many stayed and some have even passed away. Hopefully, most have good memories.

*These are my observations and not a criticsm of the current mod/server/team etc. I know a lot of effort has gone into stuff over since I left.

I need to change my sig and stuff - I am not a server admin here anymore

Hello mates, I am not playing but sometimes I still visiting the forum to see how things are in VOID.

I didnt read all the replies just the first post so forgive me if I repeat some words that others said before.

The question is if the new mod is not good enough and ppl are leaving because that. I dont think so, I think that the question should be another one: Is FL dying?

The game business is developing very fast, PS3 - Wii - XBOX - and very strong and good PC games are too strong enemies for games like FL. The people have to choice where they want to expend their free time for playing. FL is old, a great game but old and sincerely I think that FL time passed. There is not more support for this game. You see some servers with enough ppl but 2 years ago the servers with ppl were double, and 5 years ago were a lot, I remember the wars between servers IoI.

It is not about the server.

And it is not about RP. There are a lot of RP games, made for RP, built for RP and FL was not an RP (like those games) game we turned it on RP (the game have not limits or specificrules to follow a RP)

So only the real FL fans still playing, and now this few ppl are divided in 3 or 4 servers. The new mod is great, the server is great, but the game is dying. there were some mistakes in the past for sure in the VOID, but I dont think that VOID could avoid the destiny.

I am very proud when I see that some ppl still supporting VOID, that means that this server is much more than a game for some plyers, but unfortunately the business of the games changed. I leaved VOID becase I had not ime to play, but now when I have a bit of time I play ohers games, I surrender sorry. Maybe one day the business of games take a  look back and decide to relaunch a FL2, that is my hope, a dream

take care
