screwed this up? It's one of the best Sci fi movies I have seen in my life time! The storyline, the actors, the FX, the OMG IT'S STAR TREK, it is worthy and it deserves every 6 the movie critics in Norway have given it :x

I had mixed emotions. The theaters in my city got permission to start playing it Thursday night which is when I went to watch it.
I feel from a sci-fi, special effects perspective it will be received as a great film; but for people like me who are huge Star Trek fans and followers (Trekkers) we will leave the theaters with a bitter sweet taste in our mouths of "wtf just happened". And unfortunately I can't go into detail about the things that disappointed me in the film because I'll have to post spoilers to explain reasons and I don't want to post spoilers and ruin the surprise for those of you who haven't seen it yet.
But I think they created a cheap overplayed plot in sci-fi movies just to justify themselves in starting a new series.

did everyone miss the bit about it being an alternate reality??? the only thing i have to say about the film is the Engineering Decks seem to be alittle old fasioned like they have Scafolding thats all rusty etc.
All the new designed ship on there were Really well thought up
the KELVIN got its A$$ well and truly kicked in the opening of the film

WARNING!!!! SPOILER BELLOW!!!!
It's an alternate timeline... it's gone right back to the start and changed history, even the old Spock knew things that could no longer happen because of his and Nero's actions, ie Kirks father living to see JTK become Captain of the Enterprise. in the original films Spocks mother was still alive in the 4th one, The Voyage Home , essentialy the filmmakers have gone back to the start and written a story about a paradox. How could Spocks ship exist if the Vulcan Science Acadamy got destroyed? It would take more than 130 years for the 60'000 odd survivors of Vulcan to get back to that stage again.
I actually give the film an 8/10. Could have been better but I give it a high score because instead of having a "Oh crap we've got to go back in time and stop this all from happening thus restoring the timeline" (which admit it would have been an epic fail in everyones eyes, how many sci-fiesqe movies and tv shows have done that in recent years?), they merely sucked it up and stuck to the whole saving Earth story. So, not at all what I expected, a film well done....
and did anyone else notice that other than the Star Trek name popping up at the beginning there was no title credits at the start whatsoever??
I hope there are a couple more films in this new alternate timeline, good job JJ Abrams just don't flog it to death in the process =D> =D> =D>

I was too scared to go see this movie, because I thought it was going to be a "Dragonball", A.K.A. a huge disappointment compared to the real thing. To me it looked like there were going to be heaps of continuity issues when compared to the Kirk series of Star Trek. But hey, if Ruggs enjoyed it? I'm there!

OH GOD!!!! I hope their isn't a new tv series, or another 500 films LOL.
2 or 3 would be good just to show how Kirk got to be regarded as a "legendary warrior", and would be cool if the tribbles got a cameo too or a subplot in one of them :D :D :D

Never seperate a Ruggs from his Star Trek. And never bad mouth Star Trek in a Ruggs' presence.
A Ruggs will eat out your heart if it doesn't like what you say about Star Trek.

I would like to point out that alternate realities are no new thing to ST.
I saw it saturday and thought it was pretty darn good.

**Possible Spoiler**
That's my point exactly, I get tired of movies that want to create a quick cheap new plot by using the excuse of "We traveled back in time and created a new timeline" yeah that's innovative and creative, that one hasn't been overdone in other sci-fi movies. I wonder how much thought process the writers put into that this time around? It's another special effects movie with a semi-ok story looking to make a quick buck and find a sorry excuse for a new series.
And Spock having feelings for that chick? WTF?
