The Movie is based on the short film Live in Joburg. It is an awesome short film... I have not seen D9 but I know it rocks

And the makers made a very original advertising for the movie...

i liked the realism of it and fact that instead of the aliens being portrayed as monsters the humnas actually were the monsters. and gravity guns ftw but that lighting gun wow defo a must see as i think its gonna end up with cult status in the future

Three words:
BELIEVE THE HYPE.
(Seriously, this is the best sci-fi movie I've seen in years.)

well
the movie is nice
Humanitarian is a word only, unlikely the human kind behavior
I think if a decent race find us they will just laughing or simple wipe us all
just think of it our best fun to kill each other in this game ;p

I wasn't impressed.
Sure visually it's an impressive film with some great cinematography and some impressive special effects and the acting for the most part is pretty good (Sharlto Copley makes a convincing "harmless idiot" as Wikus Van De Merwe for example). However..
You can't help but feel that the film tries to apologise for South Africa's history of abhorrent racism, which in reality is a good thing but it doesn't help the film any.
The catalizing plot point (which I wont ruin for people who haven't seen it by explaining it) doesn't make any sense and to be honest leaves you wondering what's going on. Then there's the fact that even after 28 years of alien contact I find it hard to believe that the "prawns" would understand the broken English of their hosts so well while at the same time the humans would be so easily able to understand the clicks, squeaks and whistles that make up the alien dialect, apparently everyone understands each other with no problem. And finally I found the documentary style story telling complete with injected interview segments with characters to be irritating after a while.
To be blunt, a few impressive action sequences aside you leave the cinema wondering what the smeg just happened.
I wouldn't give it more than 5 our of 10 and it doesn't merit a second viewing either because you still wont know what happened no matter how many times you watch it.
As a side note there's probably more use of the ubiquitous "F-word" in this movie than in any other I've seen. Van Der Merwe seems to REALLY like saying it.

Its not a bad movie.
Im very amused by story writers satyric effort to make a point about how black south africans now treat illegal immigrants as whites treated them during apartheid.
