This isn't a rant, this is more a point about things that I need to understand.

1. Why is it that nobody writes anything on the news posts in the comments?

The submissions take time to write and are there so you have something, game and Freelancer related to read when you visit the site. What does it cost to leave a comment encouraging the writer to do more? In all the New articles on the home page we have possibly one or two comments left by visitiors to the website. You can understand why these have started to dry up now, becuase it seems nobody is interested enough to comment.

2. Why is it that people dont comment on the pilot journals

Same as above, no/minimal c9omments left by the community for the writer.

3. How come we have gone over a full month without a single donation from the player base?

This sort of beggars belief, when you look at the donations made to smaller less popular servers and we have nothing in 30 days. Sort of speaks volumes really.


This is a sad reflection of this "community", comments take a few seconds to write, contributing to the site in this way helps build the community, donating takes a little more.
Getting onto the site so you can post a flame in the forum is where were at with some people.

There really isnt anything else for me to say on the matter apart from the obvious point that I am very disapointed that Im expected to run the site, build the mod, admin the game and you can be bothered to do anything for this place.

Take The Void for granted and it will not be here when you really want it.

i enjoy reading the news items on the front page, some of them are interesting little stories, will make an effort to comment on them from now on

although i'm sure they are very good, i've not had chance to read any of the journals yet, my time is limited now between work and stuff, and with little one on the way am gonna have less spare time, generally i check the forum while at work and play on the void when i can at home.
doesnt leave much time for browsing through the journals....

maybe you could post snippets of some of them somewhere to entice people into reading and then commenting on them.....

like what we were going to do with the newsletter, maybe post the first few lines in a news item?

My apologies to all for not posting more comments on news and on the journals.  I just found them today and started my own.  As far as donations are concerned I would like to donate as soon as I can get some problems sorted out.  I thank Strail and all who helped in the development of the Void and would definitely miss it if it disappeared.

The post wasnt a "You Must do this" type of post, it was a reality check for everyone.

It all takes time to deliver what we do and all we're asking is that people take some more time out of their day to write a few comments - or even one comment would be a start!
Encourage a good news item by posting, add a brief comment to a Pilot Journal etc etc. - It only costs a little time for you - but for the person writing the news item/journal, it makes them feel as though its been worthwhile and obviously encourages them to do it again. No Comments/feedback = no interest, No interest = no new submissions, no submissions = dull website.

Please dont take take take, all we want is for people to give back a little by making a comment or showing an interest.

Even if its just a "thanks for the post", it makes a difference.

@ Strail:  :oops: I did start putting stuff on a journal but seem to have got the point of placing RP stuff into posts. "Hair of the Wolf" could start to go onto a Journal or News related items. I confess to having scanned over the "news" and I think I made one comment - (cant remember because I am old and smell of wee...!)  Having been a member of this community for a while its about time I stuck my hand in my pocket and passed on at least a couple of bucks. I encourage others to do so.  I am a technophobe when it comes to using the internet for credit card related payements so bear with me and I will get round to it.

If I get some "down time" I will make more of an effort to look through the goodies placed on the front page. I guess its because I just like to get stuck into the threads that interest me most that I tend to pass over the other stuff.  That should not be the case - there is a load of stuff going on. Whilst this is not a "must do" post from our Glorious Modifier, we all would do well to appreciate the work and other things available that makes this server a great place to be. (RP) So do as you are told and APPRECIATE, you gang of unthinking Philistines!!!!(RP end)  :D

Hi Strail,

first thank you for the mod and the forum, I appreciate the work of you and your team very much.

Since the most recent posts are no more on the main page, mostly I jump directly to the forum. Therefore I rarely realize the postings in the news or pilots journals section on the main page. For myself I would like to see the new postings of the forum on the main page, like it has been in the past.

Donations have been more visible when they were posted above the latest forum posts. Beginning of the year I saw it, installed a paypal account and donated, just because I saw it in an area of the page, where I stopped by quite often.

I never thought I will see this and my hart and eyes bleed as I do... strail.. I see you are in pain...and I honestly share it and your words hurt, shurely im not single one, I did try to help the comunity... and how meny things I did except donationg real money.. thats impossible for my age and big sorry I can't...

First I started helping about 2 years ago in NY with new players, [little sutff, just helping newcomers]
Then after 2 years I get trusted as a event and do over 30 events

Then I make videos of server, 3 actualy

Then I help admins deal with ... ahh [ secret stuff ] and we know stuff that hapened some time ago

Nother thing is I tryed to be friends with mods of you especialy admins and had enourmous respect for admins and players of high age...

So you see, try think of a brighter side...there are people in game  that realy want to help,
now im stuck in these exams and can't eaven play..[thats off topic]

Relise one thing tho... some of my tipes of players aren't enough, relised that when the console chat started saying " being nice costs nothing " ...

Olso with this sed... look at other servers to, if they recive anything...


and how you can incress the ... ahh.. money problem... here are ideas I sow o nother servers...


3 years ago on a diferent server I wanted to chainge my chracter name ....after talking to admin he sed that for chainging name theres a 2$ fee...

Have a base named after you somewere 5$

Having a hole system of your own design with adjustemens from admins on server 50, 100 $ and more

Anounce in console chat every 10 minutes asking players " please help us maintain our server and donate a little $ "

Make something like in WOW... build a armor with 200% hull upgrade for 100$ real money...

and more ideas like this...

PS. I know wat you feal.. cause after all I did trying to suport server, I feal Im worth little to meny of you...

some good ideas there luke but one problem with giving in-game items for real life cash is that people with high disposable income will have an advantage.....

if i could donate $100 and get a special armour upgrade it puts me at an advantage over those that cant afford to give money.

i like the idea of having a base named after you or something like that, maybe a character on a base would be better rather than the whole base.....

i suppose one thing that could be done to increase donations would be to convert cash in to credits..... but then again the same issue of an advantage would arise...

Thats true. Also i think that would be unfair in a sense as you suggested.
I'd like to donate but i reallly don't have much to spare. As i do work... and make a swapping $6.50 an hour ( Canadian Money ), i'll see if i can save some money for you guys.  8)

 Wow. I feel like a total heel. There was a time when I'd jump on something like this and say "Yeah! The boss is right!"  But for someone who's always on about the Void Community I really don't do much myself any more. I feel like a total hypoctite.

I have to admit I don't even read the news posts.  :oops:  I used to post a journal, mainly for entertainment. I thought people would enjoy it then but hardly anyone seemed interested so it just tapered off. I helped Zeb get the "Hair of the Wolf" going then I let that peter out to. You'd think I could  finish what I start at least in a bleeping game.

Strail, you put a lot of faith in me when you honored me witht he [VOID] position. My game participation and forum input and everything has sort of been falling off ever since. I dunno, maybe I'm getting burned out.  But that's no excuse for turning my back on a commitment, is it.

There's an expression where I come from, can't exactly put in here but it's something like "pit or get off the shot."

Yay.........!!! Glad Im not the only one with a guilty conscience round here!  :lol: Vicky has missed you at the bar mate! Sometimes a change is as good as a rest. Cooling your heels is not a bad thing - just dont forget we are here - that goes for EVERYONE.  We have a couple of folks on AoF that due to personal circumstances cant play much if at all, but the stay in touch every once in a while. That cannot be a bad thing and indicates that this place is more of a community than you might think.

I encourage the rest of u who like to make the odd post now and again - say something funny, start up your own story line and post it too "Hair of the Wolf" - This should be a "Tales from the Spaceport Bar" type of thread.  Don't worry if you are not the Nebula SciFi award winning author - come in, have a drink and have a moan or a dig or just an observation - no flames allowed but all customers welcome - Do it in RP - Gives me a chuckle, try it, it helps with the burning maddness that is the VOID...  We even had a visit early on from the ADMINs...*(scary!)* Take one minute out of your killing spree's and stop off for a girly cocktail or a pint of the heaviest beer...! The company is warm and the bar fights are as frequent as you want them to be... Ent - you can have your Txt war in tha bar if you like?

There isnt any "minimum" or anything like that, all i'm asking is that people contribute to the community be it in acknowledging those that write news articles/journals or other submissions that have obviously taken a little time to write.

This way the pressure isnt constantly on me to generate news submissions for the website and as time moves on more and more people will submit a news/story article etc as well as continuing to write those great pilot journals. theres lots of stuff to read on the site and much of it is very good RP or freelancer related stuff in these areas.
