A Few Tips for the New Folk

Ok - we have a slight problem with FLAC (our interface prog) being down at the moment.  The A-Team are on it and it will be back and running as soon as possible.  I have been watching and on occasions appearing in my VOID character to sort out some bad behaviour in New York.  The behavoir of some of our more experienced players has led to the misconception that New York is a Free For All arena.  This has to stop.  

So for the benefit of those that dont know - here are a few tips (once you have read this PLEASE go on to read the server rules). Those that know better need to read this AGAIN and AGAIN.....!

1. NEW YORK - is a non PVP Arena.  It is made that way so that new members to the VOID community can get a feel for some of the changes.

2. PLEASE refrain from bumping crashing and generaly pestering VOID / ADMINS / BANKS and Gunshops while they are trading / talking - it is EXTREMELY irritating.  Be patient.  We may be dealing with several things at the one time.

3. PLEASE refrain from "testing" your new equipment anywhere near Manhattan and the surrounding bases - if you must - go take a mission against Rogues or somesuch. Whilst most of the time this appears as a "harmless" activity  - with FLAC down it does cause damage and results in some of the less mature players "having at it" in NEW YORK - (see point one).

4. If you have a dispute or a greivance with another player and wish to settle it the "old fashioned way" then take your fight to Alexandria - or at the very least A Long Way from Manhattan.

5. Persistent offenders will end up with a ban - maybe just a short one but a ban none the less.

6. By behaving badly in New York like destroying Banks and Gunshops you are eradicating a persons hard work in building a storeship that is supposed to be safe in New York - not everyone has them and not everyone agrees with having them - some believe they are pointless others use them as trading / exchange locations for teams.  When you break the server rules you discourage new players from coming back.  This is a tough enough place as it is without people "acting up" where they shouldnt be.

7. Its a Game.  It should be fun. Defining what you think as fun and what someone else sees as fun can be two different things.  Be aware that is one of the reasons why there is a neutral arena like New York.  Misunderstandings that occur outside of a neutral area are understandable and can be resolved by combat or other means.  Doing this right outside the Portal where new players are entering the VOID increases the risk of them:
a) not reading the rules b) going along with what they see happening c) running the risk of being banned d) not coming back and telling their mates not to bother coming either...!

8. There is a MASSIVE universe out there for you to go and mess about in.  Dont Do It In New York.

9. Battleship Owners:  Please be patient with those that are curious to take a closer look especially in New York.  The occasional "bump" is to be expected - persistent rammers will be dealt with by VOID and ADMIN - PLEASE dont start shooting at other players in NY (see point 6)

10. Trade Bug in Manhattan - I catch people using it you get one warning if I'm feeling generous.  Other than that - its toast time and when the FLAC is back - FINES - ill gotten gains will be removed from you - At Source....!

After the things I saw happening this morning in NY, I was just about to post a thread regarding this and asking for a clarification on the status quo in NY and especially around Manhattan from one of the Server Staff.

Its actually pathetic that i come into NY and see players sat there with starter ships and mounted BS guns etc. Noobs that sit around and think its fun to dock rape people that are leaving and entering NY.

Its actually just disgusting, Void is going down hill at this rate, and im sick and tired of coming back to the same old crap.

The problems with FLAC are NOT our fault, and all the d******ds that are exploiting this fact knowingly are making our lives a misery, but rest assured their day will come. We may end up with an empty server, but at least all the exploityers will get their comeupence

@ VERMINARD, i respect your desicion, IF it comes to that point, but tell me something, WHY should the rest of us who play fair and work hard to get money also suffer the consiquesces ? i mean to say that is will u investigate who cheats or is cheating and completely deleate there account ? or just delete all ? and one more thing, there will always be cheaters, does that mean there will always be account restarts or deletion ? so whats the point of making money if its going to be deleted again possibily due to a cheater. these are just in my view valid points which i believe, nothing personal but u guys better think of another way to punist the cheaters, just dont take the rest of us down with them (cheaters) ! :-w

I'm settled in NY (like Kahless used to do), I prefer to lose time calling all guys to stop cheating than restarting again.

Btw, I'm requesting to open fire to those to who keep on cheating after advertisements. It's not a good idea, I know, because NY would be a battle field. But, sometimes some players need a couple of shots to take note. :-w

Thank you Hash, if there were more players like you the Void would be a better place.

As you can tell I was just a little irritated when I wrote the above post, after having spent 3 hours sat at Manhatten, doing nothing but trying to stop people who are abusing the situation with FLAC. Sad thing is that most of the people doing this are people who have been on the Void long enougth to know better.Now I admit that a role back is not fair on the players that have not been cheating, and would be a last resort. I'm sure like me the other guards have a list of the players that they have spotted abusing this exploit, but to only punish those players would mean that a lot would have gotten away with it. The Void has always had a zero tolerance for cheaters (some may argue differently), and I personally have an extreme predjudice against cheeting

Cheating has always been an issue, and always, will be with Multiplayer games, and the simple fact is that cheating ruins the game for everybody else.

The threat of a roll back is never a good thing.  Believe me Hash we will all suffer for it and I for one would rather hope it does not come to a roll back.  Punitive measures against known abusers is the first step - what we found last time that some people had abused the Bug in trading was that when we zapped the initial cheaters a lot of people came clean deleted characters and returned funds to the ADMINS.  I am hoping that some of this spirit remains and that some RESPECT ensures that there are those that will return what they gained unfairly and that those sporting WMD on unsuitable ships will also have the sense to change or delete the characters before we start handing out the bans and the punishments.  The shooting of characters in New York is a whole different ball game and punishment will be handed out as soon as we have the necessary means to do so.  Some are being considered for permanent bans due to their repeat offending despite being asked not to.  I dont ever want to hear anyone saying they didnt know or they were not warned.  Read the Rules.  

I dont want to see innocent players penalised - however, if we all want to see fair play here and that there are those who will push the limits, then there may be no choice but to execute a roll back to at least some point before hand.  This may also have to happen for reasons unrelated to this topic as has happened before.  Please keep sending the warnings about non PvP in New York and get me screen shots please - I want PvPers / Battleship gun abusers / Dodgy Traders and get me names....!

I totally understand your motivations m8. A lot of guys just don't listen when you address them, yes even ignore you ffs, and just keep on shooting others, using wrong turrets or making bugged trade runs. Ofcourse a lot of us are making SS's of that, but in the case of a player shooting up another one or even a newbie, the damage has already been done when you send the SS. Keep in mind that this 'damage' can exist of new visitors choosing not to return to this place, because they didn't get a chance to get started in the first place. This is why I have been tempted many times to pull the trigger myself. The only reason I haven't done and won't do so, is that I would be braking the rules myself. And that would be a bit hypocritical.
The police don't just keep asking you the same question over and over again now do they? They act!

Nothing wrong with sending SS's, but returning hard fire is in my opinion the best solution in the instant something happens.

This is why I have been thinking about the following.

Couldn't we establish a temporary police force which operates only in NY? The force's task could consist of keeping an eye of what this thread is all about, placing 3 warnings tops when locating a perpetrator, then shoot to kill. Give them an 'authority tag' of some kind, so that they can be recognized as such. Something like maybe [PEACEKEEPER]-01, -02, -03, etc. for example.
Some ADMIN weaponry might help to discourage repetition. Giving the members an Admin shield for instance, will prevent for NY to turn in a pvp zone, as it is no use trying to kill a ship equipped with an Admin shield and weapons.
Ofcourse it would be important for the members to stay polite, but professional in there attitude. Otherwise it would only degrade the atmosphere in NY.

In my eyes a simple, though effective way to deal with this. It also provides a way to filter out the perps the very moment they commit the act.

Server Guards and Admins, please be so kind to think this over. And please think about it twice before making a judgment. It might seem like a bold idea at first glance, but I really do think it could work.

well i had this thread a week ago for the same reasons older player who know better acting like noobs. there is no need for a role back. the voids an admin i am sure are keeping score on the ones who insist on breaking rules and not doing what is asked of them and when flac is back, which will not be long, i am sure. there will be a bunch of noobs on the forums crying "why was i banned" the answer "you would not listen".

it is so easy to follow the rules i  have been here along time play many char, over 2000 hours in all, most know i am very active and yet i have never been closed to being banned never even had a void or admin say anything to me about a ban. WHY! because it is real easy to follow the FEW SIMPLE RULES, we have on the void. i mean we have just a few rules, what does that say about you as a person when you cant follow a couple of rules. you have to actually come on the void and try and break the rules most times to get in trouble here. and yet we see all this players breaking the few simple rules this server has, imho a very long ban would not be to much to ask or expect for this players.

plese do not speak of role backs, it is not nessary and i have more than most to lose if we do, like all 114 systems 308 jh and 580 bases already not to mention 100+ million credits i have made plus 6000 kills. i dont see a role back coming this time i see some players char being banned or erased which would teach the offenders a better leason any way.

SO FOR THE LOVE OF GOD JUST OBEY THE FEW RULES HERE.
