Re: ok lets fix taxes!!!
Unfortunatelly (or not) Craig is right, Bank command makes tax levels impossible.
This is my point of view about piracy (always respecting 40 level or more):
If I were a trader, the first thing I would think when a pirate stops me will be: How much I lose if he kills me. So it is not a question of levels it is a question of profit and loses. A good pirate should manage the profit&loses of the trader, explain him if it necesary and if trader run or refuse to pay then kill him.
So depends of the money(rich trader doesnt mind about money, he minds more about time, a long trade route would be a wasted time if he is killed)
depends of the buying price of the items( it is not the same killing a trader that buyed 500 credits items than other with 100 credits items)
depends of the profit (dont ask for 1.000.000 tax if the expected profit is 1.000.000)
There are of course more aspects involved, but these 3 are the main questions in piracy activity in my opinion

Re: ok lets fix taxes!!!
well how about some command
I want to tax you i type tax# number of player and we fight if I win I am free and you can not tax me if I loose automaticly I must pay an amount which is high as my level is allowed
so when you pay are free from that pirate for a 24 h,
well of course there should be an option that If i do not want to fight and have full cargo I just type something like /pay and automaticly amount is transfered to the pirate and I am free for 24 h ....
you know what I mean

Re: ok lets fix taxes!!!
wolf i understand what you are saying, i dont know how that would work from the mod side of things it would be a question for strail if he can put some kind of command in to do such a thing.
kodiac i think you and me are on the same sheet of music, i am not sure about your numbers, for only one reason at lev 61 5 million is a lot of money. and 5 million is much more than anyone will lose if they just die. so in that case just let him kill you and only take a 400k lose instead of 5 million. now back in the sheild run that would been great.
black zero first i will say this i understand you are new here so i will take that in concederation. you have never been thru a new mod. there are always bugs that have to be fixed. but because one system out of 114 has a problem and you cant fly a laggy battleship. you wont play here? i mean come on freelancer was not originally set up for players to have battleships so to pull off such a thing is very hard and takes a great deal of power by the server not to mention modding. here is the thing strail ALWAYS GETS IT FIXED!! it might take a little time because of the size of the mod and making time, you know he has a real job to, this is a hobby not a pay check, but he always get it fixed. been thru 3 mods and he always works it all out. so you are not hoping against hope. i have no dought it will be fixed, i know that he and the rest of the a-team and a few others are working to get these small things done for us to play here, FOR FREE.
i have a hard time complaining about little thing here when i get to play for free. the guy builds this new freelancer world lets us all come and play for free, and some can do nothing but complain. in my book that is summed up in one word "ungrateful".
so we have 2 choice, help in what ever way we can, my self i just try to find the bugs for them, or we can set and complain about things that dont work the way you want them to.
we say this is a community, so i ask all of you what kind of neighbor and citizen are you? helpful?ungrateful?
if we work togeather we can help strail get it these mod done, so i chose helpful!
thread point low end tax what lev?

Wel. Not necessarly. Usually when players go AFK. They type "/afk" in the console. This makes other players unable to interract with them.
This means that any command you type to that player, for example: /invite# 1 - It won't work. It will say "This player is currently Away From Keyboard, or unable to talk at the moment" (Or something like that).
So if they know they are AFK, why would they kill them?
Or in the other case. If they don't type "/afk", well then they've got a bit problem if they keep ignoring the taxer. As they will more than likely die.
Good idea though, mate. It may work if some research was put into it. About if players would use it, how they would use it.

HH.

Re: ok lets fix taxes!!!
Headhunter, activating afk mode doesn't mean people won't kill you. And maybe that person doesn't know you are afk, for example they may have entered the system since the player typed in the afk command.
And anyway, someone who goes afk while in space, is a little stupid, don't you think?
So Nomad, if someone goes afk in space, it's their own fault they will get killed, don't you think? :)

You read my post incorrect.
I was quoting mwolf's post about the tax command. Not about being kill afk in space.
Not about being killed afk in space..

I was saying if the taxer types this to the person and they we're afk. It would come up saying that they we're afk. So why would they kill them?well how about some command

No Headhunter, you quoted Nomad's post.
So if they know they are AFK, why would they kill them?
That is talking about being killed while afk imo.
I may still be mis-interpreting your post, but please leave it at that now. It's disrupting the thread a little.

Re: ok lets fix taxes!!!
Look at my post again. It says i quoted Nomadds post. BUT - Nomadd quoted mwolfs post.
I was referring to mwolfs post. About the tax command and then Nomadd posted that players would abuse it as they would use it while they we're afk.
I was just saying that if you type: /tax# to the player who is AFK. Then it will say they are afk.
Thats all.
Now we can end it

Oh please HH, there was no need for another post. I was only trying to make a point, you don't have to jump down my throat. You have disrupted the thread further now where there was no need to. :-<
Yes I may have misread your post, so I apologise, but don't be as childish to always want the last word. :-w

Re: ok lets fix taxes!!!
HH i also think wolf ideal could at least be looked at, and i understand what you mean about the afk chat screen.
zeus you are correct also in your observation it is a little crazy to afk in space, i personally always dock befor i go afk or log off never leave my self setting in space. you never know what you will log into. :)
but guys dont start arguing about little things please the reason for the thread is to fix the bottom lev to tax. i think that if most of us agree that lev 35 to 40 in that range is a good bottom. below that the player has no money to speak of and can not even own a ship to realy fight back. you must be lev 29 to buy a eagle or saber. that is with no guns or armor. if you pick up some lev 10 guns and even the 80% armor upgrade you will be over lev 35.
same goes for a decent trade ship. anything that can carry 300+ cargo cost more than an eagle so again they will be over lev 30. and they still have to have some money to buy that first load of cargo. so to let them make a few runs so they have the money then they will be at least lev 35. if the player wants a AT so they can make some real money it cost 1.2 million by itself, that puts you in the low 30's with no money. that is why most start around lev 40 they finnally have enough to tax.
craig i understand what you are saying about banking your money, to be honest if you see a guy lev 45 then he goes back to lev 39 i would tax him. he is just trying to beat the tax, no one said being a pirates was going to be easy, but if you watch there are alot of traders on lev 40 to lev 70. i see them all the time. also why cant pirates tax freelancers in fighters i have been taxed in a fighter, if i lose i pay. and i have payed a few times. most i just keep an eye out for pirates. the rp thread we had here was very good and i think there still needs to be some improvements made.
the thread was to get all of use to work togeather to make a solid starting point for everyone to know what is acceptable, for new players.

Do the math. Look at the dwindling population. I posted here not because I am ungrateful I am patiently waitng, but because you began this thread basically blaming pirates for the servers ills. Rubbish. Oh, and you show you have no pirate ship very welll as that "one system out of 114" just happens to be the second most imposrtant system to making a Pirate chartacter. Without O5 I could not rebuild my Pirate character with the reps it has now if I had to. This is pointless, I'm outa here for another month. Don't bother argueing with me anymore I won't see it. You can fix levels for taxing, you can have good intentions (I think that eagle wants to bring us some fresh air) but the reality is that just a few, very few, follow RP in VOID.
Many X tag doing nothing, clans and Freelancers helping Rogues, Rogues grouping, all navys and evils mixed in sparta chatting. I help you because you are my friend and it is not relevant if you got R tag or X tag or whatever. I see everydays and everywhere in VOID
RP in VOID is a big lie and only a few clans keeps their RP.
Veterans could change this, with their words and acts online. But there are a few veterans and a lot of new guys (less than 1 year). Life change, VOID change, I adapt to the present
PD:When I am in a fighter and a pirate tax me I dont pay for one single reason: If I lose I have to pay, but if I win.... nothing for me, so I dont pay. Anyway since 2005 only XEF&Vagu taxed me and the last time was long time ago.

Re: ok lets fix taxes!!!
If I can step in real quick: I might have an idea:
(@Eagleone:) Why not run a poll about this with different levels as the different options. Like option 1: bottom level 20, option 2: bottom level 30, etc.
Close it after the greater part has voted. After that you have several options:
- You could collect the votes and the arguments accompanying them, and add them to your official proposal letter you then write to an Admin or Strail. They might accept the majority vote and introduce a new bottom level tax rule.
Ofcourse this procedure may take some time, but it could be worth the trouble if you ask me.
- Or you could create a 'Treaty' that acknowledges taxing above a curtain level, and prohibits taxing under that level. GREAVER made a similar one about pvp/gangbanging a while ago. No doubt you will get a lot of good response to it. The more experienced and respectable players on this server will no doubt put their names on it.
This way your goal could be reached without interference of an Admin or the Chief.
There is no shortage of good arguments on this thread, so you might assume the taxing level issue is a 'hot' one. However, as fruitful as this thread is, you will most probably not reach an outcome which will be shared by all. This is due to the great diversity of community members and their opinions. Proceeding as described above will get you a result, and a standard to act by for all those aboard.
By the way: Excellent thread you started here. The subject greatly represents the way players 'handle' the rules. Although nobody is breaking any rules while taxing a level 20 player, the common thought appears to be that it surely is not a respectable action.
It's a good example of why 'following the server rules' is something else then 'playing in the spirit of the game'.
Just my 2 cents.
Keep up the good work m8. This is why we appreciate your presence on this server. Good to have you back again.
