Clarification

Whilst in my VOID suit a question was asked of me regarding the use of bad and foul language.

This particular player had been at the rough end of some abuse  - except it was abuse with f***ing stars...(catch my drift?)  - To me this is TOTALY unacceptable. Stars are not a "get out " clause even on Forum topics.  Kids read this stuff, they also see it  in game and they are not stupid and neither are the recipients behind the language.  Think of it along the lines of what effect you intend your words to have.  

I see this sort of rubbish on screen and its out with the big bad ban stick....

If you want to get upset - go ahead - shout at the screen - Im a big lad so I can take the occasionaly  clean gripe, moan or accusation - but someone comming at me persistantly with such rot will get the order of the boot and I dont care WHO you are.....It is quite clearly abusive to swear at someone even with stars  -c'mon - get it together and grow up.  By all means get mad and get even but lets leave the potty mouth in the bike shed shall we?

If its anything different I will stand to be corrected by the ADMINS

My view is the same as yours, stars DO NOT make the language acceptable.

It's as good as typing the word out fully.

Dont take that literally, everyone. Otherwise 3 of the 5 words in that last sentence will get you banned  :P

I would be careful with that .  In Purple Group speak you have to know your mates well.  You may inadvertantly offend someone.  I try to curb my natural enthusiam on that front!  I would avoid it all together in GREEN chat if you can - just in case.

In the end the responsibility for your conduct is down to you and you alone - I got no problem with someone venting to me in GREEN or in PM's  - just choose your words carefuly - there is much you can say and imply with out swearing - things like "Gruntfutok" for instance!!  ;)

Well i suppose we should just curb our natural instincts on this front.There are other ways to do it....one problem could be abuses in another language u dont understand but then it wont matter much because u dont understand the language.

But people usually get the message when this happens and might feel even more hurt and offended.

I agree with you, but only on 2% of what you said, the **** are a somewhat dumb excuse to the actual f word, but nevertheless that famous word is not said.

You are forgetting that people play this game because they want to escape from the reality where they have a bad boss or a bad mother-in-law and occasional swearing acts like a safety valve that keeps the right temperature of their mind.

OK then listen to this: when a child comes to the point where it can install freelancer (copy crack in the EXE folder), download the mod and the mod manager, and install the mod it is usually NO LONGER A CHILD we're talking about here, but an adolescent at minimum and belive me they dont need to read it off Freelancer, they can just go outside or turn on the TV.

And how do you know if there are any children here on the server, in the first place?
I bet you 100mil off my char you didn't pull out a general survey of  the players and asked them about their age (first define what you mean by the word "children" and when do you stop being a "child")

Just to take a step back in order not to get missunderstood: I myself dont like excessive (mark that) swearing, but that does not mean that I support your rules about profanity although I dont break them.

I think what you are trying to pull here is to make an atmosphere like the one in a kindergarten, but you forget that the people here are no longer toddlers and that they are a ready product, what was done was done, and people don't like being treated like they are in kindergarteners!

If what was written above doesn't help you understand a thing or two, know this:
You made the rules which are to be respected, but be prepared for people who know how to get around them while at the same time not breking them. You cannot blame them for ANYTHING!

...so to conclude, what is next, banning players who make the quintessence of this community for using  abbreviations like wtf, stfu, rtfm... and at the same time calling for a unity against community dissidents? I know a couple od dictators who would be very proud...

Of course this is an issue of ridiculous sensitivity.   Why swear?

The whole thing about manipulation of a simple rule amazes me.
Exploiting what is more of a request than and enforceable protocol.
Talking big.
Consciously typing words that can be omitted from ones text.
Screaming for democracy as if it is the answer when the operators here are already benevolent and fair.
One minute its part of ones role-play.
Another minute it's a right that the server operators should grant to those who scream the loudest.
Not to mention an entirely separate list of benign words that could substitute for the profane ones.

It's not a Freedom of Speech problem. It's simple callousness on the part of a few individuals.

And all of that without one cuss word.

So we both agree that not swearing is a form of common courtesy to other players and and an indicator of a cultured person. Using polite language is very respected not only on the server, but also in real life.
The only difference is that there is no law against swearing in real life, so why should it be here? Why should we force this issue so badly here like this was Teletubbie world?

BTW there's a huge difference between just saying f*** and actually insulting someone, but hey this happens in real life as well. When someone insults you, this should be dealt in form of KOS against him or ignoring him, and not in the form of  taking 2GBs of SS and moaning to the staff.

And finally, I have to disagree with your statement that the staff is being lukewarm on this issue, because I've seen a lot of players banned for saying a simple s*** of f*** or any of the words followed by a couple of stars.
