Jail Sentence: 30 Days!

That's what it feels like. 30 days in the slammer.

I got the call today from the "provider" ... and I use the word loosely... of my internet connection that was scheduled to go into the house on January 30, a few days before we move in. They told us "Oops... we have some engineering thingy... *unspecified* ... that's going to push back your installation by as many as 30 working days". Yes, for those counting, that's 6 calendar weeks. I feel like if I get away with 30 actual days it'll be time off for good behavior.

I hope this isn't a foreboding of the service I can expect.

Anyway, the Redhead and I will be sharing our Verizon broadband card we got for the laptops but I can't play on-line on that thing.

So it'll be 30 days of peace for the Void server in about 10 days.

Threaten them with switching that will usaly get them moving a bit faster.

Ouch m8 Switch providers they hook you up right away. Might only be a vew days. Week tops.

Man, ISP's must suck in the outer colony worlds.  I guess that's what happens when the Alliance sends out colonies with only a few cows and the clothes on their backs.  Anyway, sorry to hear it.  :(

Um... There are ups and downs to choosing to live in the countryside of rural Oregon. I have few choices. I could go with satellite at twice the cost for no wider broadband, I could do the DSL that I currently have lined up, or I could use the Verizon wireless broadband through my cell phone provider that I have for the laptops. In fact I do have a second internet connection, the Verizon. The reason I say i can't play on-line with that is that I fear it would introduce lag onto the server. However, it's still a lot faster that dial-up that I understand many people have to use here on the Void.

Guess I'm just whining. Yes I can still visit the forums. I was hoping to get back into the game sooner than 30 days after I move. Still, I'll be busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest for the first month after I move anyway, so what am I complaining about...

Ah so its not "Uncle Bob's Internet Shack and Bait shop" thats supplying the connection.... When they have you by the short and currlies they love to let you know  it.  Lack of choice does tend to put then in the driving seat..!

Seams like the engineering problem needs serious work and a lot of scientists to be solved.
