Random, constant crashes

I have no idea... the game just crashes anywhere (along with the send/don't send error report thingy)... It runs ok for a while, and then just woosh - gone. Be it at a station, in a fight,, anywhere at all. Time also doesn't seem to be a large factor, as the game would crash after 3 or 30 minutes of play. I used to play on this server about a year-year and a half ago on my old comp, and getting a new one just sort of... ruined that

my spec:

Win xp
core2duo 2.66
geforce 8800gt
3gb of ram

I've tried lurking this forum in hopes of an answer, but everything just failed miserably

Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated... pretty please  :D

Seeing your problem I would say that you might be overloading your CPU, but that's not gonna happen with your specs just by playing Freelancer. Unless you have a whole load of other stuff running at the same time.

I am betting on a corrupted installation of the game itself. Try re-installing it, and also the FLMM and the mod to be safe. See if that helps.

I've tried reinstalling the game several time, along with FLMM. I've also tried applying the mod directly, overwriting the game's original files (instead of using FLMM), but to the same end, unfortunately

edit.. oh and I'm only running basic stuff in the background, nothing too large or demanding. Could it be a file in the background conflicting with the game?

What root is that m8?
2 ideas:
- you have a corrupted graphic driver
- you have a corrupted version of the mod or game installed (if that happens only in game)

...just logically guesses....

I'll try getting the latest drivers

Also, by corrupted version of the game installed - do you mean a reinstall would help or a completely new copy of the game?

Depending on your connection, and size of the downloaded packages - during downloads - things can get lost...

I was referring to the C:\work\ folder..

As for the reinstall - is up to you.
As I said - just an opinion.

I also had problems with FL after installing, (not as yrs)and i fixed them with completly reinstall- i mean deleting all FL or FLMM files ( U could use 'regedit' )
Dont know the reason of problems, but reinstall it works.I think when U download FLMM or mode , turn off any else on yr comp.
And dont run FL in single first! First run better 2 be multiplayer with correct mode activated. I had problems with this.Why? dunnonow...

Even though you downloaded the mod from here, it can still download corrupted. The server file is hosted by a 3rd party and as such the mod makers have to trust it downloads to you properly.

This once happened to me too a while ago, it took me forever tweaking things and trying to get it to work, as it turns out IT was the mod, downloaded from fileplanet after all.

Give it a try m8y.

I'd suggest only messing about in the reg edit as a last resort - this can seriously mess up your pc and ruin your day.

i've done some research and this is defiantly an error with the mod file you are using. (google is your friend)

the game is having difficulty rendering a texture....

i'll send you a link in a pm to download all you need to run the void.

interesting, when ever i tried googling it (i had the same problem about a half a year ago, but just gave up), i just turned up with nothing  :-??


well, i'll try all of this when i get around to it, a bit stressed for time at this moment

also, i forgot to mention that i play the game in 1280x1024, done so by modifying the PerfOptions.ini file, not sure if this plays some role

Ok here is what I think is a problem, that error message seams to hint that you are using DX8, you should be using DX9.0c you can get this free from Microsoft website.

ok i did a complete reinstall, i downloaded the game and mod from the link jimjoblue gave me and still nothing...

but it's different now... instead of crashing after 20-30 minutes with the "send/dont send error report" thingy it crashes after about 2-5 minutes with no error whatsoever... just a crash to desktop with no explanation


oh, and i have dx9

i also gave up on the 1280x1024 and just ran it at 1024x768, the game's default

i even tried running the game in windowed mode, but still nothing.. the game just dies after 2-5 minutes... be it in the game's menu or the game itself

Stupid question maybe, but are you using more mods than just the Void one, coz you're CTD-ing.
