between HD 4870 1024MB vs. Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 (216 SP) 896MB

i would go for the GTX 260.though many will say HD 4870 1024MB beat GeForce GTX 260 convincingly.but my point is the peace of mind of Nvidia drivers.i frequently see ATI drivers having etc errors/bugs/conflicts with games.but i find that rarely a case for Nvidia drivers

and as for the processor that's quite a dilemma.you want four core processor these days as the price has dropped on many versions of quad cores but then the core 2 duo is a cool 3.0 Ghz which is very tempting.

If you are thinking long term then go for the quad core processor but if you plan to upgrade your processoer again in two years time then you can go for the E8400.
i personally really like that E8400 processor's out of box 3.0ghz speed without needing any over clocking.
But i also hear new games will use those 4 cores of quad core processors.still it's a dilemma. :)

I'm with a 48701Gb and it runs smoothly, no problems with drivers so far. Its a better and cheaper choice than the 260. If it was 280 I would think twice but I probably would go for the 4870 anyway.

As for the processor... I have a e8500 clocked, if you're not going to overclock than don't bother with the duo core no more, go for the quad core as new games tend to be adapted to multi-core (GTA IV i.e.).

Well in my honest opinion:

The ATI card is a good one, but since you seem to be interested in Intel processors I would go for the Nvidia card. It's just my experience that Intel/Nvidia is a better alternative than an Intel/ATI mix.
as for the procssesors.

The Quad is a really good alternative, and so is the dual core. myself I am using the E7400 dusl core. The quad is an awesome procssesor, but I would go for the e8400. as Phantom pointed out: it comes at 3.oo ghz out of the box and still have some potenial in getting overclocked.

Just on a side note, what MotherBoard will you use?
I would love to keep in touch with people from the Void if you ever transfer onto other games. Feel free to contact me one:

Phantom is right.GTX 260 is better and has better drivers which is very important.ATI has good gpu's but they lack in drivers, drivers which will slow down the entire system.
As about CPU's,quad core is a better choice, depending on your financial situation.

Cheers

Go with the tested one m8.
ATI is just a budget choice - from this U can take the hint..

-edit-
Its sure is fun to come home after a nightshift and drink some cold beeer ^^^^
-edit-

but wont those 200 mb of video memory be noticable, and besides in a benchmark that ive seen for many games the 2 cards are simillar in perfomance when the ati slightly better, but since intel indeed goes good with nvidia, i think the choice is obvious....

ALTHOUGH! the temperature on the nvidia card is significantly higher then the ati, so......

and one more quest..wich mother board to use and is "SAPHIRE" a good company? will "GIGABYTE" do better?

and does it is important to have mother board and video card of the same company? (meaning gigabyte with gigabyte etc)

thhnx :)

p.s.
and i AM alive, only that im working like hell lol ^^ BUT i shall be freed SOON
(tis time with cash :P)

I had the ATI 4870. I had nothing but problems. Seriously. The general consensus is that my problem was rooted in my having two cross-fired and a quad-core processor. Something that apparently was never thought of when the products were on the board. (???) Using just one was OK.

So, if you ever have a plan or want to leave your options open to get two at some point you will want to consider this.

Personally, I have had it with ATI. Get the nVidia. ANYTHING nVidia is better.

However, performance-wise, the GTX 260 is superior to the ATI mainly because of how it's put together. The 4870 may look like it's going to perform better by the benchmarks but in the real world the 260 will be more reliable and give you better overall  performance. Bigger is not always better when it comes to GPU's. The main reason is the drivers. They are more streamlined and actually more compatible with just about everything. It's the drivers that cause the issue I mentioned in the beginning.

I would go for the quad for several reasons. The core speed may seem to make the core 2 duo seem faster but look at the way they work... the quad is running 4 processors at a given speed, the core 2 duo is running 2 + 2 at a given speed. Look at it this way: What's more? 4x4 or 4x2 + 4x2? Both add up to 16. But one requires 1 operation and the other requires 2. So which is faster? In processing speed you have to consider how streamlined the operation is as much as how fast. Also, look at the long range. Core 2 duo is older technology than quad. Quad will be around a lot longer. Unless you have money to plunk down again soon  for a new system you will want something you can build on.

difference between the two cards memory actually is 1024-896=128 megabyte, less than you think.

at this level of power(of the two card)that 128 megabyte memory won't affect the performance a lot or noticeable.unless you care too much about bench marks.

about the "sapphire" brand.i know it's very good graphics card manufacturer particularly it's good for ATI based Graphic cards.but i don't know whether it makes motherboards or not.and gigabyte is good too and they make graphics cards and motherboards.they are one of the top company if not the best.

and regarding using graphics card and motherboard of same company.(like gigabyte+gigabyte)no it doesn't really matter but if you want you can use that kind of setup.

i do believe the best manufacturer of motherboard and graphics cards is ASUS.A combination of their mother board and graphics card(ATI or Nvidia) would be interesting but their products also will cost you the premium/more expensive price because of their quality.

but Gigabyte's motherboard are not too behind ASUS in fact they are quality products.so go for gigabyte i guess :)

i just want to add this, you could choose a Gigabyte or Asus mother board of similar configuration(i mean p43 chip)if it fits in your budget.

And your power supply unit well i am not sure which brand is that you chose try to pick a brand like Thermaltake /Corsair or any brand which is used by a lot of PC users(gamers) for reliability.

plus you can go for 4 gigabyte memory it helps your games to run smoothly.

other than that everything looks fine :)

and of course you can run Vista 32 bit with this setup. :)
