So my computer has been running Window Vista 32-bit for quite a long time now, and despite people saying vista sux and it having a lot of problems, I never had any problems with it. but what i wonder is, is it worth upgrading to Windows 7? and if it is, can i get windows 7 64-bit or do I have to have windows 7 32-bit cause im using Vista 32-bit?
other question: what is the difference betwen 64 and the 32 bit operative system
The difference is literally the number of data paths in the CPU. i.e. 32 bit has 32 paths, 64bit has 64. So if u have a 64 bit processor, then you can us the 64 bit version of the operating system. "Simples"
As a side note, the install disk for Windows 7, can install both 32 and 64 bit versions of the o/s.
Like it been said, if U have a 64 bit CPU, install Win 7 x64. An advice:Do it , only if U have min. 4 Gbites of RAM...If not,i think the 32 bit version would be better.
I remember the time when everyone complain about how the XP s*x and so
i love my XP prof, no problem at all
just setup a proper (not freeware) firewall n viruskiller
as i see the vista is nothing more than windows XP with some driver n Windowblinds
The only good point for Windows 7 is the more coopoeration betwen each component of your PC like if your VGA not busy but your CPU is, some calculations made by your VGA to make the job easier for the CPU and RAM

Windows generally suck, i dual boot with Ubuntu and Windows 7, and windows 7 is the only windows i ever considered as OK
and YES its worth it
@TheLaughingMan: its called DirectCompute, and its about time Microsoft realised they should create their own version of OpenCL which is included in OpenGL
i prefer the "kichen" language instead of technical XD

lol yeah i had a hunch u knew what the name was ^^
i usually forget ppl dont like the technical stuff lol
PS: ONLY the ATI 5000 series support DirectX11 and DirectCompute for now!! NVidia is releasing GT300 Fermi chips, but they do not know when, and the ones they displayed for now has been tweaked GTX275 chips, NOT the GT300
i myself got Radeon 4890 so no, i do not have direct compute :/
well so i got windows 7 and it came with a flashy disc (why?), now it wont find my wireless net or my sound lol. probably need to DL drivers for the sound but no idea what to do with my net.
oh, and im on my laptop, obviously lol.
Only 1 problem i found with W7 the "A" (i dunno what that icon do) at beside the chat window. and i can't move the cursor, only the chatline can change during typing.
If anybody knows how to solve this problem will get 10 mill ingame credit

Well to answer the 64 bit question 32 bit systems only have enough memory addresses to handle about 3.25gigs of ram, 64 bit however provides 4 times as many addresses and that's it..64 bit is not faster or more reliable than 32 bit it simply has more available addresses.
FYI you can NOT install the 64 bit version of Windows 7 as an upgrade unless you have Vista 64, 32 bit Vista will only upgrade to W7 32. If you want the 64 bit version you have to clean install. XP cannot be upgraded to W7 at all.
Next up W7 inherits EVERY problem Vista has, Directx Overlay control is still broken, hardware sound accelleration is still missing, Superfetch means your PC isn't stable for upto 10 minutes after logging in while it caches everything it thinks you might want, if ANY single component in your PC is more than 12 months old it wont work properly in W7, driver support even for new hardware is pretty poor, the GUI itself uses more ram than any version of windows before it, if you want backwards compatibility you literally have to install XP from a separate XP cd into W7's virtual PC environment which has crap virtual hardware.
Honestly, all the adverts on TV for W7 say how m$ listened to what people wanted fixing about Vista and with that info made W7, but they clearly didn't listen to anyone who actually knew anything about computers.
I have tried windows 7 (32 bit since I only have 3 gigs anyway) and I have used Vista sp1 for a while too and couldn't get either of them to do something as simple as tweak the colour or gamma level of a fullscreen game. XP isn't perfect by any means but at least after 3 service packs it actually does what I tell it to, Vista and W7 don't yet and the release of W7 means that Vista never will.
Best advice I can give you regarding Windows 7 is if you really really want it wait about 9 months or so for driver support to improve and W7 hardware to emerge.
What can i say, Im so far 2 be a PC expert, but i use Win7 ultimate on a junk laptop with 64 bit 1,6 Gb core with 2 Gb of ram with 260 Mb Video sharing from the Ram memory and i use Xp SP3 on my desktop with 64 bit 2,7 dualcore 2 Gb of Ram & 512 Mb of Video. Its strange, but i must tel ya, the laptop with W7 is more stable then the desktop , after 3 month of use. I runed Tuneup 2110 & it likes many of the basic problems of W7 could be solved.Internet speed did increased at least 2 double, compared with XP.Only really annoying thing is, no Vista driver can be used when i install the W7, i was forced 2 install them from internet, when i runed the Windows update. Many of my friends sayd W7 is a dream , compared with Vista or even XP.Anyway, its only another opynion.
