FL & W7

Post by [BLK_LGN][X]Zeus »

XP would be win, but being dirty money grabbers, MS don't offer free downgrades and to be frank, I don't feel like buying a CD and product key if they can't offer this simple service.

So yeah... Windows 7. Using both FL and FLMM in compatibility mode for XP SP2 (which is what I ran on before W7) and also as administrator. However, I seem to have everything that was added after 2112 without an infocard. For example, I can see the WA1, Conqueror, Annihilators, Punnies etc fine, but no Apophis, Shilone etc. Any ideas how to fix it? :D

And another weird thing. In the textbox, let's say I'm typing and spell something wrong, well I can't use the arrow keys to move the cursor backwards or forwards. Again, any ideas?

Kthxbai.

Oh, btw, I'm noob with computers. Just so you know. :D

I'm running FL on Win7 at home, will check what compatibility settings I am using and post for you, but 1 quick thought have you set FLMM to run as an administrator?

In vista and 7 you need to erase all the sentence to come back to the typo, but in XP you could erase only the typo. I don't why but it's like that.

As for infocards, try to re-install mod and FL.

But for me, there is absoloutly no problem in installing any mod (CF-HC-Void-BSG) in Seven, i'm using fours mods at once, and no lag and no problem.

Apart that you should need do the administrator mode, which is a common option with the Vista and Seven.

Am running both as admin, and tried a reinstall. I'll do another reinstall, though, just in case.

Erasing all the sentence is annoying but I can live with it. ^_^

yeZ:)
the fasteZ typerZ ever liveZ in sirius:)

HERE a solution for ya m8
if your CPU not support it you will be noted during installation process

w7 can be annoying
so much bright n shiny objects and aero theme is nice. Lots of diagnostic tools for what?
...just to blind you coz it's a crap:)
the only usefull thing i found in W7 its almost not require any codec for video files but c'mon no bluray movie codecs inside looool

maybe after some years of serious development we can call that as OPsystem. we can't forget Xp was a crap too at the beginning

legal or illegal
legal releases are good coz everyday updates is nice against any threat from internet
illegal is nice coz you can install and reistall faster
windows will never grown up. or growing up mean you have to be greed as they are?

lots of ppl aroud the world can't pay both for PC and internet and windows operating systems without internet is ...

Heh, now I'm just crashing when I try to launch FL.

O hai Virt. Yeah, I looked at that XP mode, but I have W7 Home Premium. For XP mode to work, I need one of the other ones, and that includes buying another product key.

They can jog right on if they think they're getting anything. It's how I view P2P games, I won't on principal.  <):)

Zeus, did you remember that Flak save game that owned all your FL directories? Take a look at the My Games folder, and see if there is any save game or something like that.

Not crashing anymore.

I've tried various combinations of compatibility and running as admin with both FL and FLMM, done full reinstalls, still can't see things implemented after 2112.

It's only the infocards that are missing, and otherwise, the stuff works fine? It's most probably a dll error then... but I'm not sure why that might be so. (Win7 here, FLMM wouldn't install unless running as administrator, otherwise everything's fine.) Say, do you see the name of the Shilone, Apophis and other stuff, and only the infocards are missing - or are the names missing too? Also, do you see the description of the new bases? How about the names of NPCs on board? (You might see where I'm going with this :P)

Nope, names and infocards are all missing. So yeah, seems like .dll, but I don't get why it recognises 2112 content and not 2115 content.

Manual install of files including .dll's yields the same results.

Okay, so it's not a Unicode issue then. Hmm. Did you try overwriting the current dlls from a previous version? 'course, the new stuff in v8 will be missing, but I'm curious about the other ones, like the Apophis and such.
(Also, don't forget that for some annoying reason, the FL dlls are all set read-only. I don't think that Win7 wouldn't let you override that when writing files, but it's Windows, so all kinds of stupid crap might happen :P)

This may sound daft but give it a try anyway.

Disable any firewall, anti-virus or anti-spyware programs you may be using (unplug your modem if you're worried about security).

These programs all scan files as they're opened (which they are when they're copied) and although usually this doesn't present much of a problem, sometimes this process can corrupt files when they're written to your drive.

Dll's are particular victims of this for some reason and this is why video card manufacturers recommend disabling anti-virus programs when installing their drivers.

Also try locating your temp folder (no good asking me where that is in W7 because they've moved everything) and deleting as much of it's contents as possible before trying to install the mod into FLMM, then do it again before activating the mod.

If none of this helps then blame M$ for not listening to people who actually understand computers and instead only listening to the halfwits on their adverts when designing W7.

Well, to be honest it sounds like an issue that it doesn't read the DLL files, were there new infocard DLLs added in v8? Check if they are listed in Freelancer.ini (Doesnt contain any ways to cheat except a bit on singleplayer)

Windows will never mature in such a way that it is easy to use for the people who wants it easy, and advanced for the people who want to configure it the exact way they want.. M$ never did it that way after Windows NT, and they wont do it either, at least not as long as the NT kernel exists.

It bothers me how closed operating systems are these days. I rather wonder how closed they will be.. meanwhile i will stay with Linux..

De-activated Windows Firewall which was the only thing I had on, no difference.

All .dll's found:

[Resources]
DLL = InfoCards.dll ; Contains all infocard text resources
DLL = MiscText.dll ; Contains other bulk text resource: rumor, offer, and mission text
DLL = NameResources.dll ; Contains names of things, primarily.
DLL = EquipResources.dll ; Contains names of equipment (in string table) and infocards for equipment (in HTML resources)
DLL = OfferBribeResources.dll ; Contains random mission offers and bribes
DLL = MiscTextInfo2.dll ; Contains MP UI elements as well as other misc. text
DLL = Void1.dll
DLL = Void2.dll
DLL = Ships.dll

Still nothing. :P
