Hi Strail. Hi O.

Burn, do us all a favour and stop crying over such a stupid thing - coloured names. They are USERGROUPS. Would you be quiet if you had a nice, shiny, fancy colour that degrades everybody else? Eh?

Seriously. Stop. If you don't like them, use Firefox, Greasemonkey, and write yourself a script that makes all coloured usernames appear as default.

A bit about transparency and private forums: I've no idea what goes on on the admin/void forums, but I'm quite certain that there are posts regarding suspected cheaters and such there. I think you can imagine why those sections are private then :P As for the mod development: it's private so that the discussion can be kept constructive, without "omg whyyyyy" posts, and so that no spoilers for upcoming releases are posted. Besides, the majority of discussions usually happen over IM, as it's easier to plan specifics when they can be discussed in real time, as opposed to waiting around for forum posts :P

Let's not ignore what Geromix says, though, I believe he has many valid points. Also, thanks for posting that thread from back then, it's interesting to see the points of some people after a year has passed :) For what it's worth, you have my vote for administrative reforms too - I believe that we do need new active server guards, an update of rules and the like. I don't know how new admins and voids are chosen, though, so I won't make any specific suggestions.

The biggest point about the whole server is still the community, though. Looking back, it really has gone down. I'm not going to make any accusations at any groups or people, I'd just like to ask everyone for one thing: regard others as your opponents, not your enemies (that you have to drive away from here), and fight with guns instead of words. That would be a good start, no? :) It'd probably be better if people had something to fight and compete for, though. Any ideas about that?

(...Oh wait, those were two things :P)

Lifted this from Discovery Forums, written by elgatodiablo-

"Player factions are what make Discovery completely different from most Freelancer servers out there. In fact, it would not be surprising if they were the reason why this server has been so successful. The concept of factions is that any player can freely join without fear of loyalty commitments or metagaming, something unique to Discovery Freelancer. In most Freelancer servers, "clans" exist. Essentially RP-less entities that are focused on PvP competition with other said clans, they function based on a powerful sense of loyalty and commitment to their own. While these are all positive characteristics, a serious schisms caused by intense competition in their respective servers have often led to their demise. "

^^The bold part is the most important and highlights all the ills of Void player community in a nutshell.

The only solution is the difficult one which most people don't like- RP.

Mindless unrestricted pvp where the sole aim is to be "godlike" is not healthy in the long run. It has to be balanced by RP.
I am not saying Void should become Disco but what i am saying is that there has to be a balance. We lost that balance between RP and pvp a long time ago and we are suffering the consequences of it.

And that is why i have said earlier as well that the mod has to re-orient itself and have proper RP licenses/tags and accordingly there should be new server rules. And to enforce these server rules we need a new effective dynamic administration.
Three reforms- mod, server rules, admin and this is the 'holy trinity' that can save Void.

If the above is not done then not even God can save Void.(No offence meant to believers)

The quote you posted there hit the nail on the head. Since fights weren't caused by RP, some have become personal for some of the participants, which in my opinion contributed a lot to why there has been a slow and steady downhill here.

Now, about licenses, RP rules and such... "It is being discussed" :D
No, really: as far as I know, the general points are agreed upon. Before anyone starts panicking: RP is not going to be mandatory for freelancer (untagged) characters. It's very likely that it's going to be mandatory for clans, however. The stuff mentioned above will have to be reworked for this, of course. The specifics are being discussed, and they'll be released once they are finalised. Also, to counter any potential outbreaks of "omg whyyyy", the reason is simple: if clans were allowed to have no RP, it would kill everything. Now then, if you have any constructive suggestions regarding this, post them please!

I subscribe to Geromix words.
No need to write another text since he has all said there.
I always thought that the recipe stays in balancing the RP with PVP.
Void allowed me and my clan to do exactly that.
As long as we have clans in game, clans that more or less give the dynamics of the server,
they are responsible of balancing those 2.
Freelancers are scarce and focus on individual goals...
