Hey all, just wondering?
Just curious as to when the server has a lot of people on? I'm usually on when there are maybe 5 people. Does it ever get more populated than that?

Re: Hey all, just wondering?
Yes,it does get more people.
But that is when European players are online, basically during the evenings and then it slowly reduces over night.(Euro Time, when people get back from work and school etc.)
However, having said that the maximum you see is around 10-15 during weekdays. During the weekends it can touch 20 or slightly more.
As far as other timezones are concerned, just as you said the server becomes a ghost town.
I think there 0 Asian players,I was maybe the last.(No, wait there is STS,a member of AoF from Saudi Arabia i think)
1 player from Africa.(Xenon,Egypt)
2-5 guys from Australia/NZ.(Only guy i know is Comfort, there maybe others)
And even the Americans are no longer present here in big numbers.(The major reason why the activity is so lopsided in this server with everything happening when the Europeans are in-game.)
Yeah,so i understand your feelings. There are usually 0-3 players when i usually come and so i quit.
After all this is Multiplayer, with so few players you might as well play SP.
But i don't want to discourage you, pls keep playing as long as the mod is enjoyable.

Re: Hey all, just wondering?
@ geromix: don't American players usually have high ping? I remember hearing that time to time from them, and since the server's hosted in Germany, I'm not surprised about that.
Though to be honest, peak numbers might be better, but average numbers are still pretty low. Compare the last week with, say, the Underverse: the peak numbers are almost exactly the same, but on average, they have more players on. I guess this just shows that activity generates more activity :P

Activity generates more activity has never really been a secret
. People do not want to play around in a huge universe alone (atleast not in a game type like FL). which brings the point of, why do we have so many systems? Why don't we just remove all systems thats useless and only have systems that serves a use? for example, a usless system(s) would be most of the vanilla ones, which serves nothing in terms of exploration or new content. while systems like for example Unkown 2 which serves the purpose of offering new weaponry and ships for the player. yes, I know the equipment and ships in UK2 is avalible in other systems, but UK2 is the system you most likley will refer a new player too if they are looking for annis/anubis mk2/etc.

I disagree. The Vanilla systems are nice, they are part of the Freelancer Universe. Players are mainly operating in Custom systems...or in systems like the Unknown 2, but when we remove the systems like Omega-3, Tau-31 or dunno Sigma-19 we kill the spirit of the original FL IMO. I am also playing in the custom systems...but sometimes it is good to make a trip into the less frequent systems...just for the sake of eye candy if nothing more...I am for not removing but adding new systems...unique systems like the Zetas...Unknow 1 or Tartarus.

Re: Hey all, just wondering?
It all depend on the free time
I enjoy playing in the morning (my time) because is late evening /night in the bulk of Europe...so more players.
Sometimes - i can't play mornings - so I fly evenings - my time also - a little slow but the same VOID that I love.
Find or create targets - stay busy.
I for one am highly indecisive about the optimal ship for me - so I keep changing them like dippers.
Corrupt your group of friends to this game - one solution...

Re: Hey all, just wondering?
The reason why Americans and Canadians don't play here in big numbers is because of high ping as has been pointed out.
But high ping is only 1 reason, there used to be so many people from N.America earlier and the ping was high then as well.
Many Americans and Canadians have just moved to US based servers which have much less ping for them. And they also find those servers a better alternative maybe because of better community(same countries etc.) and good mod.
Maybe another reason why many Germans, the main constituent of European players, have moved to German severs because they find the community better.
It maybe possible that East Europeans may also follow the same path with more Romanian and Russian based servers coming up and gaining ground.
And that could make things more difficult for Void as this splinters the general FL community into 'lingual/geographical based communities'.
Yes,activity generates activity but that is only going to happen when a group of players exist who can pick and choose different servers. Such a group doesn't exist for large parts of the world and Europe is the only exception.
I guess you can call Europe as the last bastion of Freelancer.
