Cardamine......

[Travesty]

Whilst out taking photos of wild flowers last week, I found a plant that I had problems putting an i.d. to. And then, in a bizarre little coincidence, whilst reading a book the other night-a fantasy novel called "Daughter of the forest"-the main character mentioned picking a flower near a stream which matched the discription of said plant. Having the name, its known by the names cukoo flower, I googled it. Here is the wiki entry for the plant.....

So I'll be off to the woods tomorow with a freighter, although perhaps now the secret is out, the market value will slump as everyone rushes out to harvest it. I'm still in shock that Sirius' beloved Cardamine is related to Cauliflower and Cabbage!

It ist herbaceous perennial plant growing to 40-60 cm tall, with pinnate leaves 5-12 cm long with 3-15 leaflets, each leaflet about 1 cm long. The flowers are produced on a spike 10-30 cm long, each flower 1-2 cm diameter with four pale pink (rarely white) petals. It grows best close to water.

No,its not inspired from Cardamom.

Btw,Cardamom in not that rare and expensive,it is used a lot in India and in some other Asian countries. Quite cheap here,though I can only imagine what the price would be in the West.
