Re: A Void Blueprint for the future
@Burn-
Most FAQ members belong to some clan or the other.
At the moment there aren't many new players but at the time when it was set up it was certainly needed.
Most servers have some kind of "Welcoming Committee". Void was one of the first,I believe to get this done.
If we are aiming for higher player count then FAQ is certainly needed.
And s cmdrsaman said,The Dev Team is really led by LuckyLuke.
The rest of the members are meant to work within the framework provided by LuckyLuke,do some of the "grunt work" and doing things in which they specialize like making ships, models etc. There is always a Lead Modder, and in Void's case its usually been Strail or Rimshot.
Most servers with big mods usually have a Team of developers, the more skilled and bigger your team then more better will be the mod.
Both the Dev and FAQ Team are needed. As simple as that.
The only merit in your argument is taking away the colour from nicknames but that is a very minor issue,I rather do other important things first though.

[spoil]...in hope sniper guns can be combined with other guns in the future, based on their projectile speed...
sniper guns are dangerous enough atm. you can combine them with other guns in same ship
so if 1200m/s sniper guns available then the mod needs same speed for brawlers too
i have hundreds of reasons why i think the curren speed is ok. scann me anytime you want to get the full picture^^[/spoil]

Re: A Void Blueprint for the future
I disagree.Players should be given the oportunity to explore for themselves and find out the new features of the server instead of being spoonfed. If we are aiming for higher player count then FAQ is certainly needed
They can always ask void players for help if they are in difficult situation etc
Or even better join a clan.
Yes but i haven't seen them as much in their clan tags but most in [faq] and [void] charsMost FAQ members belong to some clan or the other.
2045+2112 mods did not have mass VOID's,FAQ's,Event Team etc and things were fine back then.So i find it only logical to disolve the VOID,FAQ,Event,
Some players wanted to be Events and promised to host massive events each week but now they are gone.I think they only did it for a rank 90 and a fancy looking ship (Moonrider or whatever that ship is called - the one used by admins)
Okey,Dev Team should stay although i find some of their work "unproffesional"And s cmdrsaman said,The Dev Team is really led by LuckyLuke.
The rest of the members are meant to work within the framework provided by LuckyLuke,do some of the "grunt work" and doing things in which they specialize like making ships, models etc. There is always a Lead Modder, and in Void's case its usually been Strail or Rimshot.
And here is what botheres me:The fact that massive numbers of ships have been added but mostly of them look like they were made in a rush and unproffesional way.
Sadly i'm refering mostly to the ships made by Hash and maybe the Laughingman aswell(sorry i hope you don't take it as an offence i'm sure you put a lot of effort in modeling those ships) but they all look the same (and some Light Fighter look very bad) (other ships actually look ridiculous)- they should be given at least a different skin.Sorry about the critical view but some things need to be said.
I can easily observe the difference between ships made by Hash,Laughingman and ones made by Zsoca for example
To Zsoca i must say that i like his ships very much (you can see an artistic effort and quality in them) Shilon,Warhound,The Rogue VHF etc all are great looking ships in my opinion. They have a great skin added aswell something that sadly misses in most of Hash's,Laughingman's ships.
Apophis,Spartan,Sovereign,Syntax and the bew VHF of the Corsairs =great looking ships for me. Made by Nephalim and LukyLuke prob
So in my opinion the only good ships added in v8 are:Apophis,Spartan,Sovereign,Syntax,Shilon,Warhound,VHF of the Corsairs,VHF of Rogues, and that's pretty much all i can think off right now.
So you see it's not the massive numbers of ships that make the diffrence it is actually the quality and looks of ships that i prefer. (ships in wich you can pvp or join a battle)
Better take a long time to develope new ships (wich quality can be seen) than add numerous ridiculous looking ships (wich won't be used anyway and only spark laughter from players)
Again my apologies for the critique.
Another "unproffesional" thing to do was to add (by mistake probbaly) a trade run (Bretonia run) in wich you can sell one unit of gold for 3690 $ (3680x1540=5667200 $ per run) something around 50 mill an hour. And something mentioned by Germox 10 mill in 2 minutes (even worse)
I was hopeing for a fast mod update to fix this but nothing came.I hope that i money whipe will be applied as i also have a billion stored due to this failure.
The Dev Team yes but the FAQ,VOID and Event No - Writers should be added to Dev group. Both the Dev and FAQ Team are needed. As simple as that.
In my opinion it's not a minor issue it is actually very important.Just imagine a new user on the website looking at all the colored rubbish on the forum. He will probably think that he landed in a Teen Forum or Kindergarten Forum for little kids etc etcThe only merit in your argument is taking away the colour from nicknames but that is a very minor issue,I rather do other important things first though.
Secondly it has created an unequality between user wich in my opinion poisened the spirits
I'm looking forward to the new website/forum wich hopefully will have a similar look to the one used in 2005 (simple format)
End of "rant"

so once you saying they swaping chars after 5 min to their player chars and now they usint their fancy name more ???
FAQ team are not an advertising bounch of kids. the word "FAQ" is commonly used wordwide on the web lol. IMO if im a beginner i have no idea what the VOID stands for... they can be an uberclan or so
EVENT team membership is HARD to gain and is any of the E-team members telling you leave EZF or be silent in there = You must do what they want lol they are the EVENT ADMINISTRATORS or if you wish they are the GODs on the server during the EVENT
they earned the title because they know what they doing lol (they once more^^)
VOID n ADMIN tagged members are not here for entertain you, they do hard work to keep the rules ... ... ...
Aphopis n Soveregin made by Zoca and about cmdrsaman he doing f**kin hard job lol
and again ADMINS n VOIDS can't shoot the way to be server guards lol they deserver their colourfull nickname more that you deserve any kind of awards for playing the game
Server staff takes the blame but not a single award for the had job they do
I recommend for you just play the game as we do (players), without it you never get the whole picture of Void. the NPC shooting is a little corner in the kindergarden lol everyone can do it... but uphold the server rules...[/spoil]
don't forget folks it's about suggestions... not about to arguing with eachother^^
... and who am i to tell this XD

Re: A Void Blueprint for the future
Eh, getting offtopic here, but since the original discussion has died down, why not :)
@ Burn: Not sure which of Virt's ships are you thinking about... because he didn't make any :P You can easily check who made which ship by looking at the ships folder, though. (The Waran was made by Luke, btw.)
The thing is, opinion vary about new ships widely. You say that the TR-13 looks good, while some others say it's ugly. You said that "it's not the massive numbers of ships that make the diffrence it is actually the quality and looks of ships that i prefer" - others prefer other ships, however :P
Also, you might note that the FAQ team doesn't feed answers to new players, only answer questions to those who ask them. Last time I checked, they had a policy against handing out spoilers too, and I don't expect that has changed :P
So, in short, they don't go around shouting "Snape kills Dumbledore!!!" (or whoever it was) on universal chat :D Players can and do explore on their own, the FAQ team doesn't hinder them in any way in that.
Yeah, I am to blame for the Leeds gold error. The run was designed so that players would have to go to Graves to buy it (since it's the only gold mine in Bretonia), not to Waterloo station, which shouldn't have had any in the first place. If you think about it that way, the gold prices on Leeds aren't too high.
That's the problem with randomised commodities: you have to check everything over, and not make any assumptions like I did. (For another example: that ports would sell the same commodities as the planet below. By the way, the one between the docking ring and the port was there earlier, just nobody noticed it.) Even though we removed several dozens of too easy trade routes, two still slipped in. And well, if you say that was too unprofessional, then what about all the other such routes from v4-v6? :P (Can't say anything from before them, simply because I came to play here during v4.) As you can see, everyone makes mistakes no matter how much experience they have.
It's a shame that nobody mentioned this during the testing weeks, though. It could've been easily fixed then. Unfortunately, a mod update on the server is not just "poof, and done", but lots of hard work.
And eh, many other forums have colored nicknames. If your hypothetical teen were to arrive here, s/he wouldn't say that it was anything new. To be honest, I've never heard anyone else complain about this, only you. But we've been over this a number of times already, so I don't expect that I can convince you. It's a minor issue anyway :P
As for what the different teams do, and the need for them: I believe Virtual has summed things up perfectly. The Writers team is not part of the Dev team though because Luke decided they should rather have their own separate forum section, for which you need a new group.

@Burn:
thats your opinion, granted.
however, i think you agree that most new ships look better than the previously added. (arow, tomahawk, etc)
and to correct some things:
TheLaughingMan is a coder not modeller.
apophis + sovereign are made by Zsoca.
spartan is a ship by Porsche.
btw syntax + TR-13 are made by Neph/Para/Yeti
@cmdrsaman:
writers team was set up by Vector-X.

Re: A Void Blueprint for the future
Okey thanks for the explanations Saman and Luke.
But my question would be then: Why add these sort of ships knowing that they will be less or not at all used by players in a pvp battle for example?
They should be given to npc patrols/missions only and the "good ships" should be only available for players to buy.
I'm talking about ships available for players only (VHV) wich are very balanced (in turn rate,guns/shield level, armor, energy usage etc etc) inbetween .And in my opinion each large house should be given one - example:Order-Apophis,Robots-Conquerer Mk2,Fugitives Gladiator MK2,Pirates Syntax Mk 2,Kusari-Shilon Mk2,Liberty -Crusader MK2,Bretonia -Devastator Mk2 etc etc list can go on with Outcasts,Corsairs,Nomads,Monkeys etc tec
This will give player a variaty of balanced ships to choose from and we won't see Anubis Mk2,Apophis,Viper only in space...
Right now if you think about it for a while you could get rid of all the modded ships and return the Eagle to the best available ship on Void and it will most likely result in more player activity given the fact that the modders/devs have indeed done a great job for equipment available to buy on voidserver.
Probably the most loved ship for pvp will remain the Eagle in Freelancer and it can be nicely equipped here:Brawler,Sniper etc etc - good combos available
Yes i'm very well aware that this will be taken as an "insult" to the ship modders and probbaly will never take place but if you think about it for a moment it makes sense even though it's a radical solution.
Eather mass Eagle or mass balanced VHF ships in my opinion.

edit:
@cmdrsaman
Actually it's New London (Southampton Base buy gold at 441) and then sell it for
3680 is high in my opinion
You can make things much easier for you and impose a sell limit of 1300 Credits per unit across all of Void
SO basically get rid of high price:Meserat Worrior,Andriods,Codefiles etc etc
A balance of buying something at 300 Credits per unit and selling it at 1300 or less

@ Burn: oh right, you weren't here during that time. It wasn't closed testing: the server was switched to "v8 testing", and open to everyone ofc. Still, nobody picked up on this during that time.
Sorry, but your suggestion (reworking all the commodities and the market) wouldn't be much easier. How about you do it? :P You did offer to help out with it, after all.
And no offense, but willingly introducing something that's very much overpowered in its category and easily available to everyone is a bad concept in itself, in my opinion. How exactly would having everyone fly around in Eagles lead to an increase in activity? Having less variety in pvp makes it more boring, which would make people leave sooner.

@ Burn: Well...I glad that you like my ships
I was and I will be never satisfied with my textures...In most cases they are making a headache for me.
I see no problem with colored nicknames...Keep them...Shattered Worlds, Freeworlds, Crossfire, Tekagis Treasure, BSG Dawn of War, 88 Flak has them...hell the majority of FL Forums are using colored nicknames.
Interesting I have the opposite opinionThey have a great skin added as well something that sadly misses in most of Hash's,Laughingman's ships.

Re: A Void Blueprint for the future
This is a question you should ask the pvp ers of the Void. It's intersting that Hamburg has a high activity of players although everyone flies an Eagle there...makes you wonder? And no offense, but willingly introducing something that's very much overpowered in its category and easily available to everyone is a bad concept in itself, in my opinion. How exactly would having everyone fly around in Eagles lead to an increase in activity? Having less variety in pvp makes it more boring, which would make people leave sooner.
Not really less variaty...like i've mentioned you could set up a sniper Eagler
Or Brawler or other combos etc ect and this is not possible on another server
This is something that Void is best at - the variaty of equipment (guns+shield+armor+extra feature) available for a ship
You could test it for one or two weeks - call it Eagle event - see how things turn out? Experiment a little...

Re: A Void Blueprint for the future
1 of the "pvper" answers
lol at Eagle lol at HC then then turn void into vanilla SP and you can kill billion NPC. what is the point for you to play on void?
Trabant and Volkswagen Beetle for sale... but peoples, you can choose between different tires, wheels, or a shiny exhaust system^^
didn't saw any so called pvper flying Eagle a long time ago or yea one of them who came back after a long inactive period. Maybe the wa1 was commonly used but that was a year ago.... hope we will keep this way folks
Update Update Update - another over-burn-ed topic^^
