Two computers, 1 IP (Multiplayer)?

Post by Axle »

My roommate and I wanted to play Freelancer online together, but each time we tried connecting to a server, the other person's connection attempt would timeout.  We tried this repeatedly, and when one person would logoff, the other person could immediately get back into the server.  Is there anything we can do to have both of us playing on the same server from the same IP/router?

This is a router problem, having the same ip isnt an issue for connecting to the server.

There are a few players here who play on the same router without a problem. I dont know if anyone can jump in witha suggestion for the router settings. I dont have the answer myself. Might be worth looking at the faq or instructions for your router settings in the meantime.

There is a solution and it works on my router.

One connected to router via Lan/ethernet, and the other via usb. Both inputs have different IP, like xxx.xxx.xxx.1 and xxx.xxx.xxx.2 (x are digits that are the same for both IP). If that doesn't work, maybe you should try with making a static IP for one of the connections.

Try this link, you can find some helpful things about routers there, how to set up static IP, etc.

cheers, hope it helps

The only thing that i can think of is that your internet speed is to slow to keep up.

Are you using differant MPID's for each machine, if you are not, then you will knock each other out on connection.

Each computer has a different IP assigned by the router, but since we are behind a router, we show as the same IP to the server.  That's why I think it's part of the problem.

We are able to play on two different servers at the same time, we just can't join the same server together.

Yes, the MPID's are different.
