How to Make the Void run without Mod manager and portable

Post by Asmodeus »

How to Make the Void run without Mod manager and portable

1) Do a fresh clean install of freelancer (after Install Do not remove the Disc yet)

2) After game as installed  click play/ multiplayer/ LAN now enter your MPID then
Create.(this saves you time latter) now Exit the game completely. Remove your Disc and
Delete any short cuts to freelancer you have on your desktop

3) Now create a new folder called void freelancer (or something similar) in your program files or
on desktop

4) Now go to where your freelancer was installed (usually Microsoft Games)  open this
Folder right click Freelancer and copy it (all of it). Go to the folder you created (void freelancer)
Open this And paste it in there. Now you have 2 copies of a clean Freelancer install.

5) Create a folder in your documents or desk top and call it Void mod.
Now down load the mod to this, or down load it anywhere then move it to this folder.

6)Now you need to unpack the mod in this folder(I use winrar) you can unpack it to the Mod manager
But don’t Activate it. If you have done it this way find freelancer mod manager in program files
open it go to mods/void2115.v9 folder and copy all that’s there and paste it into the folder you called
Void mod.(I do it this way so I keep a copy of it)

7) Now highlight everything in this folder (the void mod one you created) Except for the downloaded void2115.v9 you got it all from, right click and copy them.

8) Go to your folder (the void freelancer one you created )open this, open freelancer folder right click anywhere and click paste (you will get a box saying files already exist do you wish to over right)
Say yes to all.

9) Once this is all done open the EXE folder find file Freelancer (it’s the one with the freelancer face)
Right click it and send to desktop (create shortcut) now close all folders.

10) Right click the short cut on your desktop click Properties click the box that say Target
Now Add at the end of the line of text that’s in there after \freelancer.exe” -s85.14.217.82:2302
(there is a space between “ and -) now Apply and ok it.

11) Now double click this short cut
Freelancer with no Mod Manager.

Now the portable Part.

I use a 2 gig flash USB drive for this

1) Insert your USB drive into you PC and open it make sure it is empty

2) now copy your freelancer you created as a stand alone game with all the void part done (see above)
The one that’s in your folder void freelancer to the flash drive.

3) Create another shortcut of freelancer from the flash drive copy and do to it the same as you did the last one(or copy the one that’s on your desk top to your flash drive) place this outside of the Freelancer folder.

4) This is important- right click the short cut click Properties go to the beginning of the text in Target
And make sure the Drive letter is the same as the drive letter allocated to your flash drive , (also make sure that -s85.14.217.82:2302 is there)do the Same with the Text in Box - Start in. You may need to do this every time you put the flash drive into another PC as the drive letter may and probably will change.

5) Create another folder in your flash drive and call it my games.

6) Now Go to (on your PC) My documents/My Games and copy the folder Freelancer from there and
Paste this into you flash drive folder you called my games

7) If you put the flash drive into another PC copy the folder freelancer from the my games folder of
your flash drive and past it into the  My documents/My Games folder of the PC.
If you alter your key board map graphics properties just copy it back to your flash drive.

I had same problem. I have reinstall flmm and install again( as admin) and than install mod again. If not reinstall game from cd option( erase all saved files too) and do installation process again for fl and flmm as above. That solve my problem( also I did restart of pc after each for any case). I have win7 and I hope that will help you.

Did you try not to use flmm ( if you do not play any other mod) copy files from mod in to fl folder of the game( replace them all) and you should be able to play( but just this mod).

The only thing i can think of is that there is something remaining in your comp from a previous install
I know this is going to be a pain but  uninstall every thing to do with Freelancer, mod manager, and Mod. (use Add/remove programs for freelancer and mod manager)
Then do a complete search (using your comps program search) of you comp and delete anything related to any of these programs
especially search for this..content.dll
Also defrag your drive as this stuff may be scattered Everywhere in your PC by now.

Then Down load the Mod Again (to a Folder you create called MOD) and Unpack it if you can do that then we are getting somewhere.

Hi folks, just thought I'd pop in  :-h

Obvious question but are you running FLMM in Admin mode?

To do this, right click the FLMM icon and select run as administrator.

Or you could try disabling UAC in Vista (see spoiler)

Wish I could play but my clockwork PC can't handle freelancer!  #-o

Nice guide Asmo :D
