Discouraging Game dificulty

Post by Dargas »

This is a Rant! be aware of it.

I'm frustrated with the difficulty of the game's IA and the thoughness of it all.

Ok so I'm new to Void but old time FL game player although on single player only.

I wanted to be able to experience Freelancer again and searched for Best FL server and got pointed here.

first thing I found was two amazing guys that helped me out with the new features of this void universe and I started playing, all happiness abroad, adventure and exploration ahead of me... and then it happened. I stumbled upon the fact that the missions.. even the easy ones are a PAIN IN THE BUTT to achieve due to the level of IA the enemies have.

I read that the idea of Void is to center on gaming and NOT on spending countless hours massing money and trading stuff to upgrade the damned ship and it's weapons so you can move on and explore BUT with the IA difficulty and the toughness of enemy ships IS IMPOSSIBLE to mass on cash and upgrade as the idea is supposed to be.

surely you will say that it would not be hard if i'm on a group of other players and that's the meaning of the game and all... but have you guys checked how many player we get here online to play?

I've been basically alone!

doing 5000 credits missions (supposed to be easy) are as hard to do as "Very Hard" and takes me from 20 to 30 minutes to complete and then I need to repair and to be honest is NOT worth the effort.

Example... tired of doing small fry missions to upgrade the damned ship I take on a 25 credits mission. Blow up a base with some weapons platforms and eliminate the enemy ships. I would get support in this mission.

I get there, support is there too... and we face the weapons platforms and about 6  enemy ships.

the enemy ships HIT LIKE A GODDAMMED CATTLE HAMMER, they don't miss the target, no matter what maneuver I do (shield down to 0 in a few shots) I have a heavy fighter with some pretty expensive hardware in it (extra armor, heavy thruster, a good mix of fast repeating and impact wepons) and the allied support ships are RIDICULOUSLY infective. They get killed off in a few minutes and I'm left alone, I keep hitting the targets and the targets keep regenerating shields and repairing... all the while I have 3 of them in my ass firing and hitting at least 25% of their shots that seem to be enough to rip my shields down and create some heavy damage.

I blow the weapons platforms and focus on the enemies... it takes all my shield batteries and half my nanos to defeat the first wave and when I'm almost done guess what... about 6 more appear ALL  firing at me from different angles and I loose 2 wings and about 100 credits worth in weaponry that now I don't have the credits to replace.

I had to abort so I wouldn't get killed off.

this is the 3rd time this happens NO matter what upgraded ship or weapons I get. and to replace the weaponry and crap I have to get back to small fry mission making...

The game difficulty is just nuts and enough if enough. You guys should check on that if you want newbies to come and most importantly: stay... make the new york system easier at least so the new guys can at least feel they're training and having fun at it too... but if on the very start the game is a damned death zone with no hope at all... dudes for that I rather stay in my console playing. I'll have more fun, I'll feel I HAD fun and won't feel I wasted my damned time doing NOTHING... so much what I felt today's morning.

One of the two main reasons I joined and all is because I meant to bring some pals that I want to introduce to the Freelancer game, so I can play with them and have fun... but they're not really hardcore players and I know this will frustrate them 3 times as much as I am now. so Why bother?

I would've loved to stay in here guys, for real. but if The New York system is THIS hard? guys that just want to have FUN while having a few fights and exploring instead getting clubbed to death and being stressed and frustrated with an impossibly hard game will just turn away and leave for better servers or just forget about the game. That's what kills a game, people turning away from it out of boredom or frustration.

I appreciated the help I got when I joined during the first day of play but as I stated above, I'm not here to prove I'm the baddest pilot in the universe and that I have a liver made of steel that is able to withstand all the rage and frustration the universe can throw at me... I came here to have FUN and the game's difficulty is no fun at all. It is VERY frustrating.

shame really.

I'll get online every now and then and when I see a new player I'll dump all the cash I have (the few creds I have and the weapons), wish him good luck and leave.

I am sorry that you feel this way, but we have all been in the situation you are in. It takes time and practice and a few good weps. Take it from me cos I don't have a liver of steel and I'm not the baddest pilot here but I persevered.

Its better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that
you\'re stupid, than to open it and remove all doubt.

May I say: you are doing it wrong...also Void is not that hard...there are faaaar more brutal servers with hars NPCs...try NSU, your a** will be instaraped in seconds or FW or Crossfire. I sucks in PVP, also I am not a very good player but when the player wipe happened it was awesome...doing all the missions in NY with the cure Dagger was fun. Yea I got reeealy mad when the robots and apes  :D killed my poor Apophis mk2 after 0.5 seconds, but I got it thru...but hey this is a MOD, mods are well different from vanilla and they are harder sometimes....Dont give up so easily, find some wrecks with codenames - there are 2 in NY - sell or use the guns and try again.

Missions are the hardest and the worst start I've ever met. Try different and easier way.

My advice:

-don't mix weapons with different refire rate and speed, if you do that only weapon with highest speed will hit the target, all other will miss
-buy very heavy fighter instead of heavy fighter =more power, more bats/bots, more energy, more hull
-if NPCs are using CDs or missiles, put your CMs on auto
-use engine kill and thrusts for moving around

-if you see any player ask for help

Cheers

To tell you the truth i don't understand where you are going wrong. It is very rare on here that
players say they the NPC are that hard that they are willing to leave. Start with lower priced missions, like Xenos or liberty rogues in NY.
These will help to up your skill and to determine what ship and weps go best together. But above all Keep at it.

I kill Bounty Hunters and Nomads, Xenos when needed or, anything else that is red to me if I can. I'm primarily an Outcast anyway. I try to set my reps to be as Green / Neutral as I can to most Outlaw factions or, thereabouts. I try to avoid trade lanes if possible and am an avid user of JH's. I don't believe in all that roundabout traveling. I fly as the Crow flies. :)

When trading, I will generally take the tradelanes until I come to a spot that I know is Hostile to me then exit before reaching it. I do try to stay Neutral with all factions as a Trader too. If a tax is what I have to pay and it's within reason per hold size, I pay it if not, I'll run or, die, one of the two. I'm not paying more then my load is worth.

As for doing missions? I don't, the AI is much to advanced for the player. No real balance there. Even Trent managed to beat NPC's with his Starflier & pew-pew weapons, here, HA! you're asking to die. I'm not much of a mission doer anyway. I kill at random or, what attacks me first. I make more money that way. The first thing I do whenever I join any server is, work on reps, not jump into doing missions. With that I mean, hitting Storage Depots and killing certain NPC's accordingly. Once I can fly freely in most all areas of the Universe then, I pick and choose who to kill and not to kill. I concentrate on BH's & Nomads more than anything else.

It's all left to the individual though. Play the game as you like to, not as I do. We're not in Rome, we're in the Void seeking our way through it.  :D[fade][/fade]

Just my, Image worth.

That is a terrible example  :D  :D...He did it becouse it is a game element that in the first mission you have the worst geer, vehicle and NPCs. Those Anubises had maybe 10 hull :-DDD becouse that mission was sort of a tutorial. It is common RPG element that when progressing in the game the NPCs will be harder, your weapons more powerfull etc. Try to beat the Nommies in the Starflea.  :D  If you can not beat the enemy with your crap equip in the first levels of the game than it is a fault of the developers.

Trust me man, once you get up into a higher ship, it gets easier and harder to do missions. The missions that, typically, pay out around 200k are easy enough, the ones that pay out near 1mill are next to impossible without support from friends on the server. Yes, they are a bit more difficult than vanilla servers, but it makes the game a bit more challenging. That is what sets this server apart from the others, it takes time to become a lvl 70, not 5 days. I say, suck it up and don't whine about it.
